Best herbal book I own, hands down.,
By Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 10 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Little Herb Encyclopedia: The Handbook of Nature's Remedies for a Healthier Life (Paperback)
This little book (400 pages in paperbound volume) is so handy. It is such a good herbal reference because it lists individual herbs, herbal combinations, Chinese herbs and combinations (which is important, as Chinese herbs are almost always used in combination.) Common herbs as well as less familiar ones used in Western herbal medicine are included with much helpful detail. The Chinese herbal section is better than those I have seen in many other books including ones solely on Chinese herbs. This section gives the Chinese and common name, alternative names, the action and the yin/yang (dry, moist) type of action. While not a comprehensive Chinese herbal and not a substitute for years of education in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) the section on Chinese herbs is a very helpful reference. There is a lot of information packed into this book. Highly recommended.

This is the best basic medicinal herb information book I've come across in 15 years as an herbalist. I recommend this book to all my customers and clients. The combinations are a bit "out there" sometimes but study of the individual herbs will make it possible for even a beginner to put together a tea that will work for him or her.

As a practicing Herbalist I have found this to be my most favored book of the many I have. (Purchased in 1993) I had used this book so much within the first 4 months after I purchased it the binding began to seperate . I had to take it to a place that would do a spiral binding. I used this book all through out my herbal apprentice with Rosemary Gladstar.Very easy to use and understand. I recommend this book when I give herbal lectures.

WONDERFUL REFERENCE OF INDIVIDUAL HERBS,
By
This review is from: Little Herb Encyclopedia: The Handbook of Nature's Remedies for a Healthier Life (Paperback)
This book is absolutely the best one I have seen when it comes to being thorough for the different uses of each herb. It has listings of primary and secondary conditions affected by the herbs, after a write up of usually close to a page on each one. In the write up it elaborates on many of the uses, and often gives historical uses. I find it a vital reference guide and refer to it VERY often!!! Is easy to understand, contains warnings about the herbs that need it, and is really the most informative guide to herbal usage.I bought the new, soft paperbound book, and it fell apart on the way home from the store. After using it for a while I decided it was invaluable and ordered (YEAY!) a spiral bound book from Amazon.com. I definitely recommend the spiral bound as the way to go if you can get it! But even if you get a paperbound copy and it should fall apart, it is worth 50 times the money, and worth the extra care you need to take of the book. (Hopefully everyone is not as physically "hard" on books as I am!)

This book lists the most prevalent health problems and their herbal treatments. It also lists herbs and how they should be used. This book is a QUICK reference and answers most common herb questions. Further, it gives excellent herbal combinations for common problems like sinuses, Pms, pain relief, cold/flu/fever, female problems, etc. This book is an wonderful resource on how herbal nutrition can enhance your health.

This is my second purchase,

I bought this book when it was first published in the 90's. I haven't found another book that is as good. I have used it so much that my old one is falling apart. I have to buy a new one because I need the book. The book is 402 pages long. There may be a few trendy herbs that are aren't mentioned but not many. This book lists the bodily influences each herb has on the body and gives a long list for the uses of each herb. Bold lettering is used to indicate when an herb has a profound, SIGNIFICANT effectiveness .This book has helped me a lot. The only drawback to the contents is I would like to know what vitamins are in each herb etc. I have used this book to treat numerous ailments.

One of my favorite of all the books on Herbs! This book is very well organized and covers alot of herbs. I have found it to one of the better books and I have read alot of different books on herbs. It is a little weak on Chinese herbs.

Some books you purchase on amazon, you wonder if they really do live up to their ratings, then you get it and see it is not all that. This is not so with this book. I find it so easy to use and informative. Of all the herb books I have, this is my "go to" book above all others. It has listed herbs that I usually cannot find in my other books, which is why I find this one far more superior than all the others. Love the back story on the herbs, I find them very interesting.

I really like this book on herbs. It is great! It was mailed promptly the next day after I ordered. Then I waited three weeks for it to arrive. Seemed like a looooong time no matter who the carrier was!
