Vital season for fans!,
By
This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
This season contains many turning points for our favorite characters: Almanzo and Laura are married; the Garveys move away from Walnut Grove; Adam regains his sight; Percival and Nellie have twins; Charles and Caroline adopt orphaned James and Cassandra. In addition to the character developments, this season also includes some classic moments of poignancy or humor, including Albert's growing up (first with a penpal who conceals that she is in a wheelchair, then with his plan to marry troubled, illicitly pregnant Sylvia) and the doomed picture window that Laura breaks three times in demonstrations of anger at her new husband.
And now, the episodes, first aired from September 22, 1980 to May 11, 1981): Laura Ingalls Wilder (parts 1 & 2) A New Beginning Fight Team Fight! The Silent Cry Portrait of Love Divorce, Walnut Grove Style Dearest Albert, I'll Miss You The In-Laws To See the Light (parts 1 & 2) Oleson versus Oleson Come, Let Us Reason Together The Nephews Make a Joyful Noise Goodbye, Mrs. Wilder Sylvia (parts 1 & 2) Blind Justice I Do, Again The Lost Ones (parts 1 & 2)

Sad and Wonderful,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
I really liked this season. I have almost all of them. And this is the most memorable and funny one yet. Laura and Almanzo get married. Eliza Jane moves away. The Garveys move away to Sleepy Eye. A new football coach comes to town and takes it so far that the team wants to quit and Albert gets hurt. There are a few episodes in Sleepy Eye with the Garvey's, And the Kendalls.
After a few mishaps Laura suspects that Almanzo is having a love affair with one of her friends. Albert gets a penpal that he lies too. About being the tallest and everything. He wants to say he's sorry in person so he visits her and finds out she lied about everything too. Almanzo and Charles want to expand their buisness but they don't get along when trying to do so. Adam regains his sight and decides he wants to be a lawyer. The married women of Walnut Grove are upset to find out that everything that is theirs now belongs to thier husbands. They start a petition which leads to a rebellion. Percivals Parents come to town and his father and Mrs. Oleson argue about the grandchild being a christian or a jew. Almanzo's brother Royal leaves his two wacky kids with the Wilders while they go on vacation. Laura quits teaching after Mrs. Oleson suggests the school adds "French", and "Art Aprecciation." Mrs. Oleson takes over the school and the kids end up hating it. (No wonder) Adam and Mary move back to Walnut Grove so Adam can start a law practice there. Caroline believes she's pregnant until Doc Baker tells her she'll never again have children. She gets very upset and Charles takes her back to her hometown for a vacation. Charles and Albert are traveling with the Cooper family when the parents get killed. After alot of stress the Ingalls find a home for the children James and Cassandra. Until they realize that adopting them was the right thing and they do. This is all of Season 7. It has some special features: Exclusive interviews with Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) and Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson-Dalton). Audio Commentary with Alison Arngrim, Author and Journalist Patrick Loubatiere sits with friends Dean Butler and Alison Arngrim and discuss's the television program. Quizz for Season 7. I enjoyed this season and i hope you do too. Buy it soon before you're nerves drive you crazy.

Will we get lucky in Season 7?,
This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
Season 7 will be released in February 2005 and should contain the following episodes. This is the season where Laura and Almonzo wed, Adam Kendal regains his eyesight, Percival's parents are introduced with their Jewish faith, Caroline is no longer able to conceive children, and we meet James and Cassandra Cooper after their parents are killed. I truly hope that they will interview Karen Grassle on this seasons Special Features. Will we be so lucky in Season 7?

1981 recollections,

This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
I was in Grade Eight when this season aired and in a small class of maybe 40 girls total. The morning after the Sylvia program showed (Part 1) it was ALL we talked about. I kind of wish I had talked to my parents about it. I was freaked out and had never heard of such a thing, but looking back I am glad I had my classmates to discuss it, had a week in between the first episode and the second episode to reflect on it, and also got exposed to the fact that many children were not as safe as I was in my growing up. Now, remember I was 13 at the time! I would not allow my children younger than 13 to watch this program, and I have 4 of them. I guess my point in writing this review is to remember the social context in which these episodes were written. It may LOOK like the 1870's, but it was in fact the 1970's and there were all sorts of changes going on, including people starting to TALK about abuse and deal with it out in the open.
So glad so many people are enjoying ALL the LHOTP programmes with their kids all over again.

Thank you to the Mom who cares,

I am probably one of the biggest Little House fans ever! Growing up in the 80's I think all of us girls were. I think there is only one episode I haven't seen and I have the whole series seasons 1-6 so far, and save to get the next one. But I wanted to say thank you to the mom who wrote the review for the Sylvia episode. I had seen that as a kid and forgot about it. I have a 4 year old daughter and we watch together all the time. I would have let her watch it not even questioning it. It is Little House after all, you can't get more wholesome than that!!! My 7 year old son also watches with us and I would have not wanted him to see that. So thank you so much for the reminder. Truly Appreciated, from one mom to the other!

PARENTS BEWARE "SYLVIA" EPISODE PROBABLY PG-13,
This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
I am the mother of two girls age 9 and 6. I never considered that I might need to preview a Little House episode. There have been times that my husband and I have paused episodes to explain things; however, I was shocked and dismayed at the content of Sylvia, parts 1 and 2. If this was a movie made for theater I believe it would have received a PG-13 due to the rape of a 12-13 year old girl, its resulting pregnancy, and then the death of Sylvia and her baby due to a fall from a ladder. The rape was treated without revealing much skin but the male figure that raped Sylvia was so frightening to my children that my youngest daughter actually shook (needless to say she quit watching after this but was haunted by that image that night and now several weeks later is still asking questions). Even the beginning of the story line was difficult to explain to my young children as it dealt with Sylvia's father constantly shaming Sylvia for having developed breasts. Her father made her bind them by wrapping cloth tightly around them. Then he accused her when boys were interested in her. The story line from start to finish was way too mature and stood out as so very different from the rest. I so wished someone had forewarned me. If so, I would have previewed it and decided not to show it until much later in my children's development. If you own this series or are planning to, PLEASE PREVIEW THIS EPISODE BEFORE SHOWING IT TO YOUR CHILDREN.

Season 7 Worth the Price!,

This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
The best part about this DVD set (besides classic LH episodes like "Laura Ingalls Wilder" and "I Do, Again") is the informative and often hilarious audio commentary by Alison Arngrim (Little House's nasty Nellie Oleson). Alison commentates the memorable episode "Come Let Us Reason Together" in which the Olesons fight with Percival Dalton's parents over whether Nellie & Percival's coming child will be raised as a Christian or a Jew. This episode had special meaning to Michael Landon, who himself grew up with a Jewish father and a Catholic mother, both of whom fought often about this very same issue. Arngrim is a wealth of information, and tells many entertaining stories about what went on behind the scenes. Her comments about her much-loved co-star Steve Tracy (who died of AIDS in 1986) are beyond touching. Also included in this set is an interview with Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder). Like Alison, Dean has fond memories of his time on Little House and does not hesitate to share personal stories that are interesting, hilarious, and full of nostalgia. The quality of the DVD themselves is fine, although it is evident in some if not all episodes that scenes have been cut and/or skipped over. I'm not sure why this is, and certainly the most important scenes essential to the story are left intact, but there is no doubt that here and there, some material is missing. I still recommened this package, especially for those who loved this series growing up. If you are a Laura and Almanzo fan, this set contains their much anticipated wedding episode, as well as the ep where Laura announces her pregnancy, and several eps featuring the Wilders as newlyweds. "The Nephews" is a gem of an episode, with Laura & Almanzo trying to take care of Almanzo's brother's two boys. You won't be able to watch this one with a straight face! Who says that Little House is only famous for making the audience cry?

WHOLE LH SERIES WORTH WATCHING WITH FAMILY,
This review is from: Little House on the Prairie - The Complete Season 7 (DVD)
While I appreciate the revewers' comments regarding the dvd quality, I think they are too focused on details, perhaps a little too quick to criticize, and not focusing on the whole intent of the Little House on the Prairie show. Michael Landon gambled his "Bonanza" earnings on this venture when everyone in Hollywood told him a "wholesome" series like this wouldn't fly. But Michael stood his ground and did it his way. The show is his lasting legacy and his testimony to have something wholesome the whole family can watch instead of the trash that's thrown at us from the tv and movie industry today. And yes, the show even mentions God,in a reverent manner, something which, unfortunately, is a no-no in today's ridiculously politically-correct society. The Little House on the Prairie tv show did deviate from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, but then, truth be told, her books were not 100% fact either. Big deal. What we have is a show with homespun values, where God, family, and home actually meant something and took top priority in people's lives. And as a homeschooling family, we have used the show as a learning tool in many ways. (And by the way, our daughter happens to be named Laura Elizabeth, after, guess who!) To sum up, what this show does is give us all an appreciation for our country's early days and the struggles, hardships, and joys they faced. To quote a line from a LH episode, "It was a hard life, but it was a good life". Every family should sit down together and view at least some of the episodes and then have "family time" and discuss the differences between "then" and "now". The LH show is a true American treasure.
