This is restored very nicely. It's very crisp and clear. I have all of the original dvds , and was kind of skeptical, but I was really surprised when I saw the great quality. I grew up loving this show so I am really thankful that it was released in HD.

Classic and timeless with the added bonus that it is based on true life adventures, portraying the dangerous and risky hardships millions of Americans challenged to survive life between one and two hundred years ago.
The eight year longevity of the series (plus "The New Beginning" extension) tells of the place the story, the actors and the setting held in the American T.V. viewers hearts. Michael Landon wrote, directed and acted in most episodes of Little House. After the loss of her own adoptive family in real life, the child superstar Melissa Ellen Gilbert became very close to the Landons. Later, a riff caused her to lose that family also. Miss Gilbert's roaring career from early childhood included the starring role as Laura Ingalls Wilder, the original author of Little House. There is a lovely tribute to Miss Gilbert at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfGzNBGv9D0.

My son recently began to read the Little House books so we decided to view the pilot episode and he loved it so we purchased the whole season. My husband and I enjoyed seeing the shows we remember from childhood.

I bought this for my six year old daughter who is currently reading the Little House books and I thought she might enjoy watching the television series, as well. I remember these shows vaguely from my childhood as well. I knew they strayed from the books (of course they did --- the show ran so many seasons!), but this first season tries to kind of stick to the book. My daughter loves it, for what it's worth. I'd forgotten how cute some of these young actors were....little walk down nostalgia lane. Also strange to see such a "clean" show on television....you just don't see that these days anymore. (Man, now I sound old, lol!) Anyway....4 stars because I thought the price was a bit steep for something that you can watch on any cable channel (ie, Hallmark, etc) on reruns constantly. I was surprised this wasn't available on Amazon Prime, but I'm sure that is some kind of licensing thing. Worth the watch if you are willing to spend the money for the season.

And I had never seen the pilot before this. Overall worth the price!

I like this series because of it's historical view of real life in America. It is about a real family and how they adjusted to real situations as they came up. It also gave a clear perspective of the strength of the family, which was based on caring leadership of the father and a deep respect and support of his wife. There is so much of America in this series which is now lost. I may also say that a lot of what life was about in that time is what made this country great.....it is now loosing it's way; however there is hope if we can go back and look at films like this one.

Michael Landon's gift to mankind was great story telling and characters we can relate to. Although many of the "Little House" stories were recycled scripts from Bonanza, Michael had a way of making us believe what we were watching. This is the first time I've seen the series in HD and although there is some slight graininess in close-ups with low lighting, it is like watching it for the first time again. The detail of the clothing and containers in the Oleson's store are like walking into the era it portrays.
