I received this book in 1965 when I was 5yrs old. It is a sweet and loving journey of discovering personal space and boundaries... I have always treasured it and am so glad to have found a forum where I can express my love for this book.Thank you

a book to cherish,

When we moved and had to get rid of hundreds of books, this is one of the books I kept. I have read it to my children and to my grandchildren, all of whom adore it. When my 14 year old grandaughter visited recently she pulled it from the shelf and re-read it, saying "I love this book!" It's warm, cozy, accepting, imaginative, enchanting. It prompted them to make houses of their own, either separately or together, which they played in endlessly.

This was pretty much my favorite book when I was a kid -- I still have my copy of the 1954 edition (too bad I scribbled in it...) The drawings are delightful and the "story" is one I still value many (many!) years later.

Timeless integrity,

I received this book in 1958 from my grandmother when I was three. I loved it from the beginning and asked to have it read to me over and over until I could read it for myself. I still have the original book and my children have loved it too. There is something about the idea that we all (Dads and Moms too) need to have a house of our own as a respite to get away from the many pressures that all people feel (especially parents) in todays busy world. With so many expectations for our youth in today's society, it seems important to remember that it's OK to take time for yourself.
