Since I am currently working in the ICU setting this book is like a mini bible. One should get the original version if they want to get into the details of physiology, but for a quick look the abridged version is a god sent!

Excellent Quick Resource for the ICU,
By Infomaniac "duhjoker" (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Little ICU Book (Paperback)
This book by Dr. Marino with contributions by Dr. Sutin is a great book during rounds and gives a quick review of ICU facts. The data presented is well described, and difficult topics are explained as thoroughly as possible in a pocket book. The book covers a wide array of topics from ventilators to formulas often used in the ICU to nutrition with almost everything in between. Please do understand that this is a pocket book (so not all facts can be fully covered in detail), and Dr. Marino's main book is still considered a classic text for ICU rotations. This pocket book also has references to the specific journal article that the text is derived from. The diagrams and pictures are black and white, but this is not a negative aspect of the book. Overall, this is an excellent book for the ICU physician or any clinician needing to take care of critically ill patients. It's relatively small and portable, but can be a bit heavy while on long rounds in a white coat. Yes, I would buy this again knowing what data it contains.

Excellent book to carry around with you while working in the ICU. Not the easiest to read cover to cover but perfect for reference or to read a chapter at a time based upon particular patient's.

ICU is a very busy rotation, and you normally lack time to read. This small ICU book is simple and comprehensive enough. If you have more time to read, then get the bigger version instead.

Great as both a primer for entry into the ICU setting, and as a quick reference within ICU practice. Topics are covered in short, easy to understand, information-dense chapters.

Actually, I'm in Med/surg and love to read this book. It is very well organized and many good additional evidence-based info, which is good to know. I've learned a lot from this book.

I really like this book. It is packed with useful information, and it is more comprehensive than the other pocket-sized books in this field that I have seen.
