5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant change of pace, December 19, 2008

Being a former Strokes fan and an ongoing Los Hermanos fan, I was pretty pleased to hear that Rodrigo Amarante and Fab Moretti got together to create this side project.

No One's Better Sake and Keep Me In Mind have a Strokes raw sound where the slower folky songs take on the lazy vocals of Rodrigo Amarante and Binki Shapiro. It's very nice to see more Brazilian artists coming out into the indie-folk scene and putting out great albums. I hope Little Joy gets together for a few more takes and wish they would tour out this way.

4.0 out of 5 stars A peculiar, but great little pop album!, November 8, 2008

Since the Strokes seem to be on hiatus at this time, it looks like their side projects will have to do for now, and this one by the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti does it very well. No singing by him, but the other two members of the band (Rodrigo Amarante & Binki Shapiro) trade vocals throughout without overdoing it. The album itself is a mix of Velvet Underground (the Nico version), the Strokes (of course!) and some Brazilian and 70's pop to boot. Favorite tracks for me so far are "Don't Watch Me Dancing", which has a neat guitar break in the middle and reminds me of a cross between "Mr. Bojangles" and "The Girl From Ipanema", "Keep Me in Mind" which is very Strokes-like, and "Next Time Around", which has a bright, sunny pop touch. The rest of the tracks are no slouches either and will grow on you after a few listens. This album is short and ends far too soon, but it has more meat on its bones than many bloated 70 minute plus opuses that are out there. Recommended for fans of the Strokes, the mellower side of Velvet Underground, and anyone who likes good pop-rock that is a bit off-center.

Strokes drummer does not fail when taking up the lead on Little Joy. Great music for a relaxing day.

Best tracks: No One's Better Sake, How to Hang a Warhol, Keep Me in Mind, and Don't Watch Me Dancing
