Photos Toddlers Can Relate Too,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Little Lamb (Pictureback(R)) (Paperback)
Both my children have loved this book from about 13 months old to two years old. The photos show a little lamb kissing, hugging, drinking a bottle, eating, playing, sleeping, and being naughty by spilling a basket of apples - all things a young toddler can relate to and build vocabulary with.

I owned this book as a child and 20 years later I am still fond of it. A sweet story about a young's girls love of caring for a new lamb. LArge color photographs throughout book. A nice addition for any child's library.

LOVE THIS BOOK,
This review is from: The Little Lamb (Pictureback(R)) (Paperback)
My two year old is delighted by this book. He will listen to it as many times in a row as I or daddy will read it. He knows large portions of it by heart. The story is simple and sweet and demonstrates the relationship between a girl and her pet. There is a little bit of mischief and a lot of love. The photographs are priceless and really show the photographer's insight into children and animals.

My 30-year-old daughter saw a picture of a lamb online today and had a flashback..."Didn't we have a book about a lamb when I was little?" Yes, and it was a favourite. I could probably still recite the entire text if I tried!
I always liked the parts about the lamb eating too many vegetables and needing some medicine, and the part where the little girl gave him a bath and brushed his wool with what looks like a wool carder.

An Enduring Classic,

I love this little book for the gorgeous pictures and the sweetness of the story. I am 27 and I have never forgotten this book that my parents read to me. Now that I've had the opportunity to look at it again, I really appreciate for the photographs. Most children's books these days are so commercial. Not this one. It instills in kids a sense of appreciation for nature and nurturing. Get it before it goes out-of-print.

I purchased this book on a whim because it was so inexpensive and because the lamb on the cover was so cute.
My son is not quite two and a half. The first few times we read the book together (a couple of months ago) I skimmed over the story, because I thought it was too much text to hold his attention. But he liked the pictures right away. Now I can read the entire story to him while he stares at the pictures and points out things that interest him. I should mention that my son has a pretty good attention span when it comes to being read to, so I'm not sure this book would be age appropriate for all two year olds, particularly boys. But I'm pretty sure most three, four, and five year olds would enjoy it. The photos are just wonderful. The story is about a little girl who looks after a lamb for the summer. (His mother had twins and isn't able to feed both lambs.) She takes care of him and he gets into a bit of mischief. Then, when he's not such a little lamb he goes back to the neighbors' farm to live with the rest of his herd. It's a very gentle and timeless little book worth the price for the lovely photos, alone. We also have The Little Duck, which is equally good.

This book is excellent. I still have the original from my childhood, but it's a bit beat up, so I recently purchased a new copy. I believe it teaches kids a great lesson about how some animals just aren't cut out to be pets, despite how cute they are or how attached to them we may be. The pictures are bright and colorful, which is really great for pre-school aged kids, especially.
