5.0 out of 5 stars My Daughter Loves This! February 6, 2010
By Rosa
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This has been a huge hit! My daughter instantly set up her room as a library...organizing books by type, setting up a librarian's desk, putting book pockets in her favorite books, issuing library cards to all of her dolls and webkinz animal friends and making signs with her hours of operation. Our "little librarian" has been busy hosting storytime, checking out books, issuing overdue slips, giving out reading awards to her stuffed animals and doing plenty of reading herself! This little kit has inspired hours and hours of creative play. Her friends all want one too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Charming Gift February 8, 2010

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this charming 'box book' library kit because it looked like it would help make my daughter's school required reading a bit more fun and motivational. And boy, did it deliver! She was so taken with the colorful array of materials inside the little box that she began to read more books just so she could log them and start an awards system. After that began the loaning of books to her sisters and it soon became a funny little joke that her sisters owed her money for their overdue fines (they paid her back with Monopoly money!). It is a charming little gift and perfect price point for birthday parties which I'll definitely keep in mind.

My eight-year-old daughter and her friends love to indulge in creative play such as playing school, store, and so on. This Little Librarian kit was greeted with much enthusiasm as my daughter and her best friend both love to read and this fit in perfectly with their creative play needs.

My daughter has some bookshelves in the study devoted entirely to her collection of books, both fiction and non-fiction. When her best friend came over, they decided to play "going to the library". My daughter was the librarian and her friend was the library patron. It was so cute watching them play with the materials in this kit. Her friend chose a couple of books, with my daughter acting as a librarian, guiding her through the fiction and non-fiction sections. When the choices had been made, my daughter proceeded to place the book cards into the book pockets before placing the book pockets into the chosen books. Now, the book pockets do come with adhesive backings, but I chose to use reusable adhesive backings because I did not want the pockets to tear off and damage the books when removed from the books, so please take note of this.

The kit comes with seven blue file folders labeled:
Library Cards - 4
Reading Awards - 4
Book Pockets - 15
Bookmarks - 2
Book Cards - 15
Overdue Slips - 6
Reading Journal - 1 (the size of a small notebook with spaces to fill in under "Books Finished" and "Favorite Books")

Now, this was a bit of a novel experience for my daughter and her friend because our public libraries have been fully automated for the last couple of years. We check books in and out of the library using machines (the machines scan the bar codes and a book is easily checked in and out).

5.0 out of 5 stars Former teacher- Favorite new gift May 11, 2010
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
As an educator I have to say that this is my new favorite gift. It not only encourages children to read but gets them actively involved in creating their own library. This product could not only be fun at home but really enhance classroom learning. I just love that the kit comes with a library card, reading journal and reading award certificates. I'm very excited about this product and hope that you love it as much as I do. It is a great gift to give to emergent readers and current bookworms as well. Thank you to the mother/daughter team that created this product. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandmothers best gift April 28, 2010

I purchased this gift for my grandchild and it was a hit. The children at the party forgot about the electronic gifts and were soon playing library for the rest of the party. Children have so many books at home and this product encurages them to read those and others. Little Librarian will fill many hours of playtime with a single child or a group.

4.0 out of 5 stars My New "Go To" Birthday Present February 4, 2010
By Sam
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is my new "Go To" birthday present. I keep a couple around so when we get a party invitation, I just need to pick up a couple books the birthday boy or girl is interested in. I then have a unique present that doesn't use batteries, isn't a cheaply made toy and isn't related to a TV show.

The kids get real library supplies and have fun checking out books and, especially, handing out overdue notices to siblings and friends.

Great Idea!

Admittedly, one of the most interesting and fun jobs I ever had was working in a small-town library. Mind you that was ages ago, but I had more than one little one standing by my side asking questions and taking a peek at what I was doing. Many of the libraries in this day and age have electronic resources and books are checked out much in the manner one would check out groceries, but this old-fashioned set up is a surefire way to get even the most reluctant reader interested in reading. The appeal of this "Little Librarian" kit for parents and educators, especially those who homeschool will be high.

Parents and caregivers can easily help youngsters transform their book collection into a lending library. Small groups of children, especially those participating in summer reading programs, can circulate and share their books. There is one reading journal in this kit, but programs usually supply individual ones. This award winning kit is beautifully creative, yet simple and appealing. The only thing needed is a supply of books (think book sale). If you are looking at the "Little Librarian," chances are you have a child who could benefit from having one.
