In the eleventh Little Lulu collection, the flagging spirit of the lesser stories that concluded All Dressed Up (2006) is quickly worked out in a clutch of tales that end lamely yet have their remarkable aspects, such as Wilbur the rich kid's protracted playing-possum act in "A Cold-Blooded Killing." But after Lulu gets mean for the sake of, and then to, Tubby and the boys' club in "Mumps," things are back on track, and several terrific tales-told-to-Alvin featuring Hazel the witch and Tubby-the-detective capers (he takes to calling his sleuth persona "the spider") make for another outstanding volume.
