The art is often fresher than the script in the fourteenth Little Lulu collection, but about halfway through comes a pack of delightfully daft episodes. Lulu always hits the mark when Tubby is the target in a baseball-throwing fund-raiser for Tub's gang (it's his idea!). Lulu tells Alvin a just-so story explaining why a giant has only one head. Truant officer McNabbem dons drag to catch Lulu, who, as usual, isn't actually playing hooky. These are gems, but even the lesser stories have such sublimities as the panel in which little Annie gleefully asks, "Are we gonna seek revenge, Lulu?" Ray Olson

My boys, ages 6 & 8, love Lulu comics. They read them together, with me, alone, in the car, in bed, for minutes, for hours. The stories are hilarious, with lots of boy and girl characters getting into sweet and funny adventures. A classic, we can't get enough. If your kids have not read Lulu, start with any volume, but get a few because eventually, like us, you might end up buying the whole collection!
