My mother read this book to me, and I read it to my children. This book is an inspiration, instilling in me a life-long love of letters and the words of friendship. The Little Mailman is a messenger of hope, and I've never forgotten his greeting to Mrs. Duck: "a yellow letter for you today. Yellow means good news, you know!" Just this spring, my mother sent me a birthday card in a yellow envelope--she hasn't forgotten either.

I don't know what brought this book to mind today. I thought oh, I will just do a search. I was sure that I would find nothing. But oh my goodness, this book has touched others like it did me. I would love to find a copy of it. I am 60 and this was my favorite book. As a child no other book touched my heart like this one.

Wow! I just purchased a copy of this book which was read to me every night at bedtime (over 50 years ago). It brings back wonderful memories and I can't wait to share it with my "big" sister. The seller was very honest about the condition and I'm just thrilled to have it in my hands again. My grandchildren will love it too because it was Nana's favorite book.

Before I entered kindergarten, I would beg my mother to read this to me every single day after lunch. She got so tired of it that she'd sometimes skip words just to hurry me along for my nap, but I'll always catch her and make her say all the words! Finally, I began asking what the little black marks on each page were saying, and that's how I learned to read--with this very book. It's my most well-loved book of my childhood. I recently read it to my great-niece, who now loves it too!

I just received a first edition copy of "The Little Mailman of Bayberry Lane" from my daughter, Sarah. I broke into tears. It was a present for my 64th birthday. I spent a lot of time with this book when I was much, much, much younger and really identified with Mrs. Pig (so alone and unsure). Thank you so much my dear. I do not know anything else to say. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

I am 63 years old and read this book when I was 6. I read it and reread it for years. It is one of the most wonderful books I have ever read. The message of kindness and love in it is profound. I thought I had lost my original little Elf book and ordered another for $50, but when it came it was a large, cardboard version. It wasn't the same, but I am glad to have it back. I still read it as inspiration, a reminder to be as kind as the little mailman. Every child should have this book read to him or her.

They don't publish childrens books like this anymore! The artwork is beautiful. The story line is about a lonely Mrs. Pig who never gets any mail, like the other animals in the story. The chipmunk mailman notices and invites all the animals to a surprise party at Mrs. Pig's. As a result of his kindness towards Mrs. Pig, she gains new friends (as well as thank-you notes). I haven't read this story in 40 years, so my plot line may be a little off - but that's how much I enjoyed the book as a child. Highly recommend due to appropriate content for young children to be read to by an adult.

Well, I hope I do not lose my credibility as a book reviewer with this review. No book captures the memory of my Mother reading to me as a young child more than "The Little Mailman of Bayberry Lane" written by Ian Munn with a copyright of 1952. The illustrations were done by Elizabeth Webbe and the publisher is Rand McNally and Company of Chicago.

Hundreds of times I listened to my mother's sweet voice read this book. It was my favorite book of early childhood. The excitement of those days came back today when this wonderful book arrived in the mail. It was in excellent condition. I opened it with a feeling of awe and I remembered the pictures and words from those many, many years ago.

The animals teach "character." Mrs. Goose taught hard work and friendliness. She arose early to pick bayberries to make bayberry candles and to welcome the Little Mailman, a Chipmunk. Mrs. Duck also taught the importance of hard work and neatness and is seen sweeping the yellow leaves off her walk. She, too, was looking for the Mailman and expecting a letter from her sister. Mr. Turtle was expecting a tulip catalog and was waiting on the Mailman. He remarked, "What's the hurry...Anyhow!"...He teaches patience.

Every day Mrs. Pig hoped for a letter and waited by her mailbox but every morning the little Mailman passed her by. The Little Mailman was very thoughtful and devised a plan to involve all of the others on Bayberry Lane to show friendliness to Mrs. Pig.

This is a heartwarming book that I will never forget. The mid to late 1950s were a time of peace and innocence in my life. The characters in this book personify the essence of those times. It captures happy moments of my childhood as no other book. It was well worth the price to relive the memories. For the memories, the story line that teaches values, and the beautiful illustrations, this book deserves five stars!
