Editorial Reviews

Taking place after the events in "Little Women," Jo March (O'Brien-Moore) has married her Professor Bhaer (Morgan). They soon decide to open a school for wayward boys, hoping to give them the guidence to become productive adults. When wayward boy Dan (Darro) is accused of a theft he did not commit, the couple stands behind him until the real thief is caught. The cast of boys include child stars Frankie Darro, Junior Durkin, and Dickie Moore. It's a sentimental tale told with honesty and sincerity, and the best of the "Little Men" movies.

Customer Reviews

The story was good and the movie was fairly clear as well.

In trying to evoke emotions through facial expressions, the characters make almost comical facial expressions.

Little Men was a favorite book of mine when I was a child. This movie is so old that it can't possibly do justice to the story.
There are several Little Women movies that are still fun to see today. This movie was stilted and the acting was very poor. In trying to evoke emotions through facial expressions, the characters make almost comical facial expressions. The dialogue was poorly scripted, and the interaction of the characters was very poor. I've seen gradeschool performances that were more believable.

First of all people who see adaptations of this classic novel need to understand what the words "adaptation" and "poetic licence" mean. That being said, this particular adaptation is one of the best I've seen. The story has been shortened due to the time it was written(during the Depression when money was tight anyway)Sound quality is a little poor, but that is likely due to the transfer of old print to DVD. Still utterly charming. I think--unlike several of these other reviews--that Alcott would be proud of this 1935 adaptation.

1935, black and white - This is a very early version of Little Men, but I read somewhere it was the closest to the book. The picture was ok except for a few scratches and rolls. The sound quality was poor.

I thought all the children were good actors. The adults were good too, but I always pictured Jo and Prof Baer differently. Some of the actors looked familiar, but the only one I recognized was Dickie Moore.

I'm glad I had a chance to see this movie, but I thought it should have cost less.

Given the rarity of this film, a sort of VHS looking quality I suppose is better
than nothing. The film is primarily of interest for those interested in the novel
and the few screen appearances of Trent [Junior] Durkin.. Frankie Darro has
the most screen time. It would be terrific if Amazon offered the never seen
early Paramount versions of "Huck Finn" and "Tom Sawyer" both with Durkin.

I haven't read Little Men in quite a few decades. It was never the subject of films in the way of Little Women. A shame really since the story is so sweet. I was happy to find this little known 1935 version of the tale.

To be honest, there are sound and picture quality problems - but not enough to put a lover of early films off.

While the characters are likable, the plot is ordinary and very predictable. The acting is generally ok. This didn't seem to be a highly regarded movie, seems to have lacked substantial financial backing.

...this movie moved waaaay to slow for me. Sorry Little Men. To be fair, however, I will look for another version of this movie, because I loved little women (all versions) so much.
