This is the movie of your childhood memories BUT! it has been edited to death! Everywere where there might be any indication of a niple (a little pink dot) the editors has cut the pice out of the movie. This is the old anime movie but if you are interested in the real one, the uncut version, pleas don't hesitat to contact me. I know were to find the original one. woombah@hotmail.com

A much more true to text Little Mermaid,

This is a version of the best animated Little Mermaid I have ever seen. I saw it once on TV as a child and have been looking for a good copy of it ever since. The only reason why this edition does not receive four stars is because of its editing. There are a few very harmless and naturally looking scenes where the mermaids' (Marina and her Sisters) moved aside and a mere dot was drawn in for the female nipple. By no means was this pornographic or even close to indecent, but all these scenes were cut out of this video and it made some of the sound tracks choppy and the cuts weren't exactly flawless. I say keep the little dots, they don't hurt anyone, and save the quality of the final product. Also there is a scene after Marina has human legs which was beautifully drawn, but because it showed a side view (yes just a side view!) of her legs and hip that was spliced out too--as was the funny quip by a servant later. Rather a shame to over censor something that didn't need to be censored. As I said I saw it as a child on TV, NOT cable, and it was not edited up then it shouldn't be now. I'll keep looking for another version of this animated story. Also, to note the tape quality was just slightly lacking with some wavy lines and sound track glitches. This review is for the Little Mermaid-Hans Christian / Clamshell edition.

The original Little Mermaid of your childhood!,

An excellent version of the story, very true to Hans Christian Anderson's telling. The image on the cover is NOT like the animation of the actual movie. Be prepared though: the film's final message is that a woman should sacrifice her entire life and self for the good of her man (whether he loves her or not).
