I read this book to my adopted daughter who was 15 months at the time and she loved it. Pictures in the book are pretty and colorful. All adopted parents who have adopted from china should get this book for their child

1.0 out of 5 stars There are so many wonderful books about adoption, don't waste your money here..., July 11, 2006

This review is from: Little Miss Ladybug & Her Magical Red Thread (Paperback)
This entire book is based on two inaccurate assumptions - that ladybugs are a symbol of good luck and that the invisible red thread (not a magical red thread...) has anything to do with adoption. The idea that ladybugs bring good luck was introduced within the past 10 years by parents adopting from China - someone saw a few ladybugs one day while they were waiting for a referral. The referral came the next day so they decided that ladybugs brought luck. There is no belief in China (or anywhere else that I am aware of) that ladybugs are a symbol of good luck. Secondly, the invisible red thread is used when referring to adults fated for marriage. To use it for adoption is more than a little misinformed...

If you are looking for some great books for toddlers, get Big Bird in China DVD; Over the Moon: An Adoption Tale ; Mommy Far, Mommy Near: An Adoption Story ; Through Moon and Stars and Night Skies (Reading Rainbow Book) ; We See the Moon ; I Don't Have Your Eyes ; I Love You Like Crazy Cakes.

There is so much to share about the real China and real adoption issues that it is a shame to spend time on this fluff - while perhaps well intentioned, it has nothing to do with anything.
