4.0 out of 5 stars Don't skip over this one so fast...., September 5, 2004

HWB (Phoenix, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Little Miss Stubborn (Mr. Men and Little Miss) (Paperback)
I saw the one negative review on this book and I had to put my two cents in. My mom gave this book to me because I am a mom of two "Little Miss Stubborns" myself. I thought it was very amusing as the other Mr. Men and Little Miss books are, which I love because my kindergarten teacher used to read them to us when I was a little girl. I give it four stars because I agree it could have a better ending, and Little Miss Stubborn is not polite to Mr. Strong and something should be said about that. But I disagree with the idea that it is a terrible book with no morals. A lot of bad things happen to Little Miss Stubborn along the way just because she is so stubborn. She gets on the wrong bus because she won't listen to Mr. Nosey who is telling her she is going the wrong way to Mr. Strong's house. Then when the bus takes her to Coldland instead, she gets rolled down the hill in a snowball avalanche, and she catches a cold. All the while, she has a very stubborn attitude saying things like, "I don't catch colds!" It is a cute book, and if you know somebody who is very stubborn, it will really hit home.

As far as the morals in the story, while I admit it could have a better ending that sums up why it is not a good thing to be so stubborn, it is up to parents and teachers to talk about the book and point out Little Miss Stubborn's mistakes. Just like with any other book, if you have more to say when the book is done, talk about it afterwards. Like I said before, a lot of bad things happen to Little Miss Stubborn, and kids can see that her stubborn attitude gets her into a lot of trouble. Just don't dismiss the book because it doesn't spell out the moral at the end. I think it's a fun and amusing book, and my oldest daughter who is almost 4 wants me to read it over and over. If you have a stubborn person in your life and you are considering buying this book, read the book and make your own decision, but don't make up your mind based on the few reviews you see here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could use some help, June 19, 2006
This review is from: Little Miss Stubborn (Mr. Men and Little Miss) (Paperback)
I bought this book after reading the reviews on it. I have to agree with the review of it not being finished. The book leaves you hanging. It really needs an ending to it. I think it is okay, but I still have to do a lot more explaining with this book than I do "Little Miss Bossy." My daughter, who is very smart gets Little Miss Bossy, but asks a lot more questions on Little Miss Stubborn. Good book, but be prepared to end it yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ahh ... the irony ..., April 16, 2002
This review is from: Little Miss Stubborn (Mr. Men and Little Miss) (Paperback)
Most of the Mr.Men/Little Miss books are very amusing. Some are even good examples of modeling and explaining personality traits for young children; and, it is not unusual for some characters to find their limits or learn how balance their traits to adapt better in their fanciful, little story-world.

Little Miss Stubborn, on the other hand, is so far the worst I've read. Not only is the story lacking the hallmark droll of the series; but, a little TOO true-to-her-character, Little Miss Stubborn never changes! Offering perfect examples of how to be stubborn, the story just meanders to no conclusion. Even worse, there were no "consequences" for Little Miss Stubborn compelling enough to point out to children how unpleasant this behavior can be. This is an unusual book in the series compared to others such as Mr. Tickle (who learned the limits of his tickling antics) and Little Miss Wise (who learned how to be a little more adventurous).

If you have a stubborn child whom you hoped reading this to might shed some insight for them, don't bother. Lessons aside, it isn't even entertaining. Pointless.
