3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but too expensive
Our 2-year-old thought it was a novelty to begin with but now it just hangs out in the toybox most days. The doll is cute and works for what it's intended to do. However, many phrases are hard to understand. The white "counter top" never stays on so I finally threw it out. The actual toilet/sink set-up is very tippy so you have to set it against something to keep it...

My daughter saw the commercial and fell in love with the doll and her cute song. It was the same song I sang to her when she was learning to potty, what a coincidence! I should have had it trademarked, oh well. Anyway, I spent about 10 minutes playing with the doll and noted all of her sayings.

I also noticed that the toilet seat is really a button, and when you place the doll on the toilet it activates the button and there must be a sensor too, as the doll "knows" when to pee and p00p and won't say anything pee or p00p related unless she is on the toilet. She also doesn't always say p00p things, only about half the time she's on, which is like a real kid, they don't p00p every time. She may also fool you, saying she has to go, then you put her on the toilet and she'll say, "Nope, no potty."

There must also be a sensor that tells when she is vertical or horizontal, as she says sleepy things when she is reclining or lying down. I also noticed that if you ignore her request to drink or "go", she might say "Please" or the "Try again later" saying.

Inside the toilet is a disk that spins. When the toilet is flushed the "p00p/pee" side of the disk flips and it changes to clean water. You should then close the lid. When you open the lid to have the doll "go" again the disk will flip to show the pee/p00p again. There is a clear plastic barrier in toilet so the kids can't reach in and touch the rotating disk.

So far after a whole day of play the "bathroom" is still intact, we haven't had a problem with the shelves staying on at all, they seem pretty tight. If you are having problems with the shelves, make sure you look underneath to make sure it's snapped into place.

She raises her hands and turns her head quite often. When she's inactive you can lift her arms up and down, they move in unison. Her legs can be moved 180 degrees, but it's a tight rotation, kids may have trouble adjusting them. She has a speaker on her belly in the shape of a heart with a button in the middle to get her talking.

One thing I would change is I wish they made this doll with brown hair speaking English. My daughter will never be a natural blonde and I always buy her dolls and ask others to buy her dolls with brown hair to encourage her to have a positive self image. The English speaking choices are Caucasian/Blonde Hair or African-American/Black Hair.

My 3 year old daughter absolutely loves playing with this doll. My 5 year old son even played with it for a while doing what the doll requested. I can hardly believe I spent so much time writing this review, but I really like this doll and wanted others to know all of the features before they shelled out the big bucks. Way to go Fisher Price, you make a good doll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Initially a let down, but it worked!, November 10, 2008

This review is from: Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Toy)
I was initially disappointed with the toy but things worked out for us in the end.

Cons: The shelves never stay on (we glued them) and the whole thing falls over easily (we kept the back drop of the box and rest it in there). The doll goes through its round of phrases, sometimes completely contradicting what my daughter is actually doing with her. The toilet almost never flushes to the clean image the first time, and often not even the second time (my daughter doesn't mind but it drives me crazy). Also, the doll only makes the sounds that she is going potty if you get her on the sit just right.

Pros: No mess. Play includes having the doll go pee and poop (important with our very resistant child). Any doll or toy can be put on the potty and it will trigger the switch so it looks like they went. The doll can be turned off for "free" play (though having her on when brushing her teeth is hilarious).

I gave it 4 stars because, well, it worked! The night it arrived my 2 1/2 year old, who usually screams if you try to change a dirty diaper let alone try to get her to poop on the potty, said "Gotta Go" and did. That was 8 days ago and she has been in underwear, with only two accidents, for the last 5 days. Previously she was willing to pee when we asked her to but wouldn't ask to go and absolutely would not poop on the potty. For her getting this doll seems to have been what she needed to take that final step.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun toy, November 10, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Little Mommy Gotta Go Doll [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Toy)
My daughter, who is almost four, loves this doll. She is not a doll lover and never showed any interest in dolls until this one. She has played with it every day. It makes her laugh, and she talks to it. It is expensive at $50, but since this was her first doll request I caved in. My daughter loves brushing the doll's teeth, giving her a drink (and my daughter has figured out that pushing the dolls tongue triggers the drinking sounds and finds it extremely funny that the doll will "eat" the tooth paste or anything else she puts in her mouth). The pee/poop sounds also make her laugh, especially when the doll says "oh that is stinky". I agree with the other reviewer about the shelves, they don't stay on. I kept the back drop as well and left the toilet and sink attached at the bottom. This adds stablity. Plus it makes it look like a little bathroom. I wasn't interested in this doll because my daughter is already potty trained, but she loves it. My daughter has a little trouble with the flushing of the toy toilet, it is hard to push down all the way. Things I like about the toy is that it says please and thank you. The one thing that I have reservations about is that the doll makes a "rasberry" sound then laughs. My daughter finds this hilarous, but now copies it and blows rasberries all the time. I also wish the doll was programmed to ask to play or look at a book with the child. At least some activity away from the toilet, and then has to stop play to go potty (that would be a good potty training skill reinforcer). Our doll seems to loop into the sleep talk a lot, and rarely talks about washing hands. Overall we are satisfied, everything works and my daughter is having fun roll playing.

My daughter likes to carry the doll around but, in my opinion, paying this much for a doll/potty is overpriced. She would have been happy with a different doll. I couldn't say whether this has helped with potty training or not since she is working on it and hasn't played with the doll for several weeks now. Cute doll, nice that no water is involved...but too $$ for this type of economy.

I am so dissapointed in this purchase. The picture and description implies this a stand alone item including the potty and sink. It is not!!! It has to sit in the cardboard backing or it is useless. The doll does not stand up alone, the sink doesn't make water sounds and it has to stay plugged in almost all the time.
This item in no way will teach my 2 year old to go potty.
Very very dissapointed in the purchase and at this price...

My 2.5 yod neice was potty training. With this doll it took no time at all. Each time she thought the doll needed to potty she went with her so she wouldn't feel alone. The doll had to go alot. In two weeks she was trained. I love this doll.
