Trent Willmon is the real deal--a Texan cowboy who sings and writes with the best of them. It's unusual, then, that his second album comes off as a bit unfulfilling. Now, please note, this is merely when compared to his self-titled debut, which was a solid album--one of the best debut records I've heard. A LITTLE MORE LIVIN' is still a great record, it just crosses territory we've seen too often before.

I won't concern myself (or you) with the album's weaknesses--really, there aren't many. Let's instead deal with the strengths. Willmon's singing is incredible--he does use more range on this album, belting out some lines like a true-born crooner. And certain material on here lets him do that without being cheesy--songs such as "On Again Tonight," the bluesy "Louisiana Rain," and the powerful story-song "Good Horses to Ride." "So Am I" is a genuinely touching love song, while "Sometimes I Miss Ya" and, to a lesser extent, "Surprise" strike you in the funny bone. "Ropin' Pen" is a good lil' rocker, while "Island" again displays Willmon's ability to sing a love song and sound genuine (a knack a lot of contemporary artists don't have).

Trent Willmon's second release, A LITTLE MORE LIVIN', continues the solid country music featured on his self-titled debut. Willmon's songwriting is still heartfelt and true--sometimes a bit hokey, but it's probably intentional--and his singing is better than most of his peers. This is a strong country album, whose only flaw is the lack of originality featured in some (but not all) of the songs. Still...if you liked Willmon's debut record, or if you just like your country music sung by someone who's lived it, then you'll enjoy A LITTLE MORE LIVIN'. Here's to a long and fruitful career for a great country arist.

I visited the states last year and was lucky enough to spend an evening at the Grand Old Opry. Trent Willmon was on the bill. I liked his singing so much I bought his debut album from the Opry shop and brought it home to the U.K. It has been played constantly since. I sent to Amazon.com for his latest album because it was not available in England. I received it within 1 week and once again it is been played all the time. I love the great lyrics and country feel to his music and can't wait for the next one.

I loved this CD! I don't think there's a bad song on it, although I especially like On Again Tonight, Love Shouldn't Have to Be So Hard, and Louisiana Rain, which is a *terrific* blues song!. Close on the heels of those three, Sometimes I Miss Ya, The Ropin' Pen, Good Horses to Ride (a great story song, a little reminiscent of some Garth songs). The rest of the songs are close behind - the uptempo Good One Comin' On, and a funny Surprise are good country rockers. This is the CD most likely to be found in my CD player now@
