Book Description

March 1, 2011 2 and up 360L (What's this?)
Shh…! Little Mouse has a secret! He's found a delicious-looking apple and doesn't want to share a bite. So he buries it, and no matter how many of his friends ask what he hid, Little Mouse won't tell.  But when a tree sprouts from the seeds of the fruit, there are enough apples for everyone-and Little Mouse realizes some secrets are even better when they're shared.

Award-winning illustrator Éric Battut has created a charming picture book that will delight-and teach-children.

Kids will delight in knowing more than Mouse as they watch the apple tree sprout behind him
Simple text and illustrations encourage sharing, but avoid preachiness
Subtle “green” subtext about the abundance and importance of nature

ÉRIC BATTUT was born in Chamalières, France, where he still lives and works today. After studying economics and civil rights for six years, he went on to study illustration at L'Ecole Emile Cohl in Lyon. He has since created many successful and award-winning books for children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from Books That Heal Kids June 6, 2011
Format:Hardcover
You'll giggle your way through this super cute story. Mouse is being a real stinker...a sneaky and selfish stinker. He's doing the classic "I'm not gonna share with no one!" behavior. He tries to hide the apple. Know any kids who try and hide toys etc? Little Mouse's Big Secret is clever and the illustrations tell the real story. When you make the decision to be generous over being selfish - you will reap so many inner rewards. Love those kind of kid conversations. This is also a great pick for inference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous Book January 19, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a raging hit in our home. We act it out. Our preschooler's "read" it to each other. We have given it as gifts. It is a very simple story with a sweet message and I am sure it will be a book I will desire to still own once I have my own grandchildren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute illustrations and story, best for Ages 2 and 3 January 10, 2013
Format:Hardcover
Sweet book about a Little Mouse who finds an apple and wants to keep it to himself - his secret. When he can no longer hid his secret, he decides sharing is his best option.

Each double page shows a different little animal who approaches the mouse and asks what is being hidden, while behind the Mouse's back, the little apple tree shows a gradual growth. The repetitive structure of the text is very satisfying, and while the Mouse refuses to answer the question as to what the secret is, the young reader can see the secret growing in front of their eyes (i.e. you can ask your little one, 'what's happening here? what is it?', so your young reader can feel like they know more than the characters in the story)

Each page is very minimalist, with small illustrations (except the tree which grows) -- The mouse on the front cover of the book is the size he is within the book itself. Very short repetitive phrases per page, simple vocabulary, this book is probably best suited to children about 18m - 3.5 years. Myself, I probably would only buy it as a gift for a child who was under the age of 3. Cute book.
