Book Description

July 1, 1999
"A Little One Amidst the Shadows" tells of three episodes in the life of a man: one night in the young boy's life, one day in the old man's death, and a passion week in between. Along with this little one, the reader peers within the darkness and through the valley of shadows. In such a place it is difficult to tell the differences between the white and the black hats. Who are the three visitors? Why is there such suffering and so much pain? How will it end? Where is God?

The 160 page book is written affirming the truth and comfort of the historic liturgy, the importance of repetitive teaching and the efficacy of the Word of God. In terms of genre, it is difficult to put this work into a category. Perhaps it could be termed a confessional story with a mysterious thread and scenes of sharp satire and pastoral reflection. The softcover book also has six illustrations as well as the cover drawn by Anisa Baucke. In addition there is an after word that is intended to encourage pastor and parishioner. Also, as an after word, a member of the congregation has graciously consented to the inclusion of a four-page account of his extended ordeal in intensive care. Don't miss this section.
