5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical and Pure Joy
Nothing but smiles were created by this little surprise of a book. The delicate figures, the small world within our large one: magical.

3.0 out of 5 stars Many Adult themes depicted
The book delivers on its premise, but the arrangements are not for children. You would know this in an instant if you were looking at the book in a traditional book store, but it might not be so obvious when browsing online. (hence my review) This one is not for the little Lego builders in your life who might otherwise enjoy these creative and playful mini-fig scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant art, less brilliant reproduction, February 6, 2010

This is the best sort of art, which makes you stop and reevaluate the world that you normally take for granted. I have the highest praise for Slinkachu, but I also question the publisher's decision to print this book on uncoated paper (as opposed to a paper with a smoother surface, which yields a sharper reproduction). The art itself being tiny, the photos rely on detail and clarity; while I think the reproduction is as top quality as could be achieved on this paper, the very nature of the paper means that some of that detail and clarity is almost undoubtedly lost. That said, it's a wonderful book for the price.

This photo collection is amazing, it made me laugh, it made me think, and it made me feel empathy for a tiny figurine. This book is great and talks about some big issues, with some little people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Wait, February 3, 2009

My friend Rich:"Monku" takes amazing pictures of little train figurines with unexpected poses, garment and vehicles so when I accidentally dropped onto Slinkachu's blog and saw pictures that he had posted, I fell in love instantly with what he was showing.
I waited almost 2 months to get this book because it was out of stock. When I received my package in the mail, I had completely forgot I ordered it. What an amazing little book it turned out to be. "Little People in the City: The Street Art of Slinkachu" explores the photography and the world in a way that few have seen (literally). Every page presents itself with a new image composition with little 5 millimeter sized people interacting with the world of humans. In addition to the amazing & cleverly composed scenes, sharp & well shot photography and the uniqueness overall, Slinkachu presents a message in each of his pieces. Some may be straight forward while others take an extra person to help ya out with. All in all, this book is one of the best coffee table books I've purchase. Check out "Little People in the City: The Street Art of Slinkachu" blog to see photos that weren't included in the book. Buy this book. It's only a few dollars and will support a fine photographer at the same time as it will enlighten your enjoyment. Good luck and Happy Shopping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect scale!, September 12, 2009

The review for this book is the same as my review for Walter Martin & Paloma Munoz: Travelers, found them together, love them both equally!

I saw this book at the SFMOMA bookstore, along with Little "People in the City: The Street Art of Slinkachu." I do feel a tad guilty about turning to amazon.com to purchase these books and not supporting the MOMA directly; I'm also curious if this effects the percentage the authors receive? That aside, I give top marks to amazon for offering these books as a pair, eerily intuitive folks! The books themselves are of excellent quality, the photos are beautiful. I shared these books with a number of people who all got a hearty laugh out of this style of miniature art. They arrived in good order as promised, thanks amazon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the artist, the book itself is pretty good, April 1, 2011

I absolutely love this book. Or at least the scenes depicted within. Not only are the concepts often very clever and in some cases quite funny, but the execution is just brilliant with some really fine miniature work, painting, staging, etc. These must take a lot of patience to set up and photograph. The layout in the book is also nice, with the arrangement of close-up and further distance shots adding to the impact of each scene.

The only reason I'm rating it a 4 star is because of quality of the book itself. It's all matte printed, which might actually fit well with the photos (hard to say without seeing a photo printed comparison), but does seem a bit underwhelming viscerally. The overall product quality seems decent, but paper and print quality just aren't awesome. All that being said for under $11 it's not a bad deal, and certainly the best way to appreciate Slinkachu's art in full.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful original artwork, November 19, 2011

I met this book in the shop of "La Pedrera" (one of Gaudi's building) in Barcelona, Spain. I've loved Slinkachu's style at first sight. I took note and googled, and could know a little bit more about the artist in his blog/website. I found it very original and meaningful. Back to Brazil, I couldn't find this title in our bookshops, so I bought at Amazon. Even with the shipping, the price was quite cheaper than Europe's.
