Great Instruction,
By Langstadt "lea500" (Boyertown, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Little Pilates Book (Paperback)
Dillman takes a difficult exercise and explains it in simple terms. The Little Pilates Book is just as great if not better that The Little Yoga Book. It's a small, compact book to take with you anywhere. The exercises can be done anywhere. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about Pilates.

My tummy's getting yummy,

After swearing by Dillman's THE LITTLE YOGA BOOK the last couple of years, it was a no brainer buying THE LITTLE PILATES BOOK. This was my second attempt to start practicing pilates. I had to stop previously because I found other pilates books too confusing. Dillman, however, is clear and concise, and i can see the results of my reading when i look in the mirror. There's no stopping me now. i highly recommend this book!!

Perfect traveler,

The Little Pilates Book is the perfect match for me,a pilates beginner and frequent traveler. I like its straight-forward "basicness", brief explanations and easy to follow exercises. And the size of this book is perfect for travel; I just tuck it in my carry-on and pull it out for a few great, invigorating stretches at the end of a stressful day. And, as an added plus, when I hear friends complaining about their sagging bellies, I wrap up a Little Pilates Book (it's so cheap!) for their birthday. Needless to say, I'm a Pilates convert, and I think The Little Pilates Book is a little gem.

I do Pilates at a weekly class here in the UK and was looking for a book that would help me to continue at home. Having looked around, this is really the best book that there is - clear, informative and easy to follow. I can't recommend it highly enough

History, motivation, philosophy of Pilates,
By Sheila King "desk-worker mom turned marathoner" (L.A. County, California) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Little Pilates Book (Paperback)
This book gives a nice little history of Pilates, as well as explaining the mental attitude and approach to doing pilates exercises. One nice thing about it, is that she discusses who some instructors approach exercises one way, while others a different way, and encourages you to seek out your own instructor and follow their advice. She also gives advice on how to select an instructor (the types of questions you should ask to make sure your instructor is qualified and has a thorough background). Also included is a glossary of terms used by Pilates instructors, diagrams of the body explaining benefits of Pilates exercise (better posture, longer leaner muscles, flatter abdominals...) The book concludes with a selection of 15 beginner to intermediate exercises. Each exercise is described in detail, giving "how to" instructions, accompanying diagram, the expected benefits of the exercise and suggested modifications. I give it four stars (instead of 5) because 15 exercises isn't really that many. Also, the diagrams are not as good as pictures would be (see Pilates for Beginners by Kellina Stewart), and overall, I cannot imagine learning from a book with diagrams only. You would need to at least rent a DVD to see someone actually doing the exercises. Well, at least I would (and did). Overall, an easy quick read and certainly worth checking out although.

This book is definitely for the beginner.,

As a certified instructor I found this book boring and very basic. I found it boring because of the absence of pictures and so basic it was hard to focus to read it.
