An Introduction to Style,
This review is from: The Little Pink Book of Elegance: The Modern Girl's Guide to Living With Style (Little Pink Books) (Little Pink Books (Peter Pauper)) (Spiral-bound)
"A truly elegant taste is generally accompanied by excellence of heart." ~ Henry FieldingLooking at life from a different perspective is always sure to bring on new challenges and surprises. So what if you've been ignoring this side of yourself for the last 20 years? There is always time to reorganize your day so you can sip tea in bed in the morning instead of rushing about feeling frazzled. This book shows you how to enhance your life instead of letting life lead you wherever it may. Want to take time for long baths? Organize them into your life. As the author notes: "Living elegantly must be achieved through experience." It seems a worthy goal, but where to start? The chapters include: What is Elegance? Wardrobe Rules Accessorize! All that Glitters Bare Elegance Scentsations Organizing Principles Home, Elegant Home Elegant Entertaining Shabby Chic The Write Stuff Beauty from the Inside Out Elegant Findings Within these intriguing little chapters you can find out about the top ten items every woman should have in her closet. The section on lingerie is fun and statistics and secrets throughout add fun to various topics. How should you take care of pearls? Should you use hairspray and perfume "before" or "after" you put on pearls. These are of course things a girl must know, because at any point in time the man of your dreams may buy you some. Who would want to be clueless and ruin them? Spa Girl types will love the "Bare Elegance" chapter, although you probably will know most of this by the time you are 25. This section serves as a refresher course in caring for yourself, no matter what. "Scentsations" is an introduction to perfumes and then it leads into a discussion about candles, room sprays, incense, scented papers and essential oils. I can think of about four people right this very minute who would love to read the "Purging your Purse" chapter. Just yesterday I had to sort through my purse to find my keys. Now the "If Your Walls Could Talk" section says your home reveals your self-portrait. Feng Shui is briefly introduced, but the focus is more on clearing out the clutter room by room. After your home is all organized, you may want to throw a party. An especially brief section could be explored in more detail. Ideas about how to live a more elegant life becomes even more practical when you read through the 30 days of elegant ideas. Day 4: Write a note instead of sending an e-mail. Day 11: Read a Poem Day 21: Buy someone else a gift, for no reason The last chapter on saying goodbye has a lot of wisdom, although at times I think that people who keep saying they are really busy or tired should just be more honest and say what they really mean. It would save us all a lot of annoyance and confusion. This book says to end a friendship, allow it to run its course. That might be a good idea if you have the time to put up with someone's abuse. If not, I say moving to say New Zealand might be a good option. The Little Pink Books are a fun way to spend an hour and the Little Black Books look ever more fun. A fun series of books to keep you entertained and they don't take up much room in your purse. You may even want to keep one in your coat pocket so you always have something fun to read. ~ The Rebecca Review

This has helpful information in a nice small, concise form. Would be a great gift to a recent college graduate. However, I didn't care for the many references to the show "Sex and the City". I don't find the characters on that show to be good examples of elegance.

I bought all 3 books in the Pink Books series and I am disappointed with each and every one of them, they're each small, cute and portable (think about keeping it in your mini purse to read while waiting in line), but the content is more than just lacking, it's like reading the headlines of the news without actually reading the story. Wouldn't buy again. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the design and portable size.

This book is really a darling read. The book itself is so cute - the size of it is as the title states, "Little". It is the perfect size for the purse if you want to take the book with you wherever you go as a constant reminder of how to incorporate elegance into your life. You will be able to read the entire book in just a few hours. I really learned some great ways of how to look at life and to not only achieve elegance but happiness as well. Finding inspiration from people (Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, Coco Chanel, etc) or things (like pearls, the little black dress, architecture, art, etc) we find elegant and the beauty of the world around us truly helps us to find happiness and elegance in our lives. I really loved the focus on inspiration. The book also had some great tips on building a classy, elegant wardrobe. Simplicity is a key theme to incorporating elegance into your wardrobe and your home. If you want a nice shorter read on elegance that has a little to say on a broad range of topics or if you enjoy reading books of this sort, I think you will enjoy this book as I have.

I felt the Little pink book of elegance just skimmed the surface of things all the time, whether it was about clothes or home. I would have been happy with just a couple of new tips, but there was nothing new there. My guess is trying to broach both the topic of etiquette, clothes, make-up, lingerie and home (not in that order) was too ambitious, and I ended up feeling it was empty, it was so general. You'll learn as much in a magazine. Or, for clothes, you might want to check out "The little black book of style", for must-have basics, and for confidence, and/or "How to be chic and elegant", for a simple style that avoids faux-pas. They were more useful to me anyway.

I bought this book hoping it would give me some new ideas and or reminders of how to be a better me. I found all of the ideas to be very simplistic and you can get these from reading free articles on the web. There was nothing new in the book that inspired me. This may be a good book for a young woman freshly out of college and starting a professional job for the first time, but otherwise I can't imagine that a wider audience would get much benefit.

As our cultures all become more global thanks to the Internet and travel, I believe that etiquette is making a much-needed comeback. This book not only gives some great introductory information on elegant attire, housekeeping (something I *really* need to step up, LOL) and so on, but the etiquette of writing thank you notes, properly setting a formal table and so on. This tiny book (it would fit easily in a clutch bag) is an excellent place to start for those who are looking to step up their game a bit.

This book is amazing, I carry it around in my purse at all times, because it's small enough to fit and accessorizes well with my cosmetics and wallet. Speaking of purses - it has a great guide on how to organize your purse. My favorite section was 'how to throw a cocktail party' and I don't even drink - apple cider and lemon soda sparkle too. The ten wardrobe essential page is also a must-read. If you enjoyed this book, you'll also enjoy 'How to Walk in High Heels: The Girl's Guide to Everything' by Camilla Morton. - Reviewed by David's daughter.

This book promises more than it delivers. The information is basic and most of it is common sense. Useful only to those who are very young or who for whatever reason have never read anything at all on this sort of subject.
