Lars, the little polar bear, dreams of flying in the sky like a bird. One day, he meets a lost puffin who cannot fly home because his wings are sticky with oil. Always ready to help a friend in need, Lars takes the little puffin to the healing waters of the hot spring where they discover a bright red hot-air balloon. great kid's book,

An adult might find the storylines a bit repetitive but my 3 year old loves all of the Lars books. We got her some at xmas and she was so pleased that we bought all the others for her birthday 5 months later and she wants them read to her over and over. She even 'reads' them to her younger brother!

My nephews love all the little polar bear series by Hans de Beer, and so do I. Great illustrations, he meets animals that he makes friends with, and a nice ending. I'd can recommend them all.

Too many sequels,

Little Polar Bear, Lars, has experienced several adventures in previous booksabout discovering friendship with diverse creatures in unfamiliar settings. While the first book was charming, and the beautiful illustrations continue to delight, the story lines have become strained. In this one, Lars lop-sided friendship with an oil-smeared puffin, and a brief scary flight in a hot air balloon were disappointing.
