The story comes first in this wonderful illustrated book. The pop-ups might not be spectacular but they are funny and in conjunction with the rest of the illustrations makes a satifying interactive story book adventure. Little Lars' exciting journey starts when the piece of ice he is sleeping on breaks off. You can see Lars on a moving ice floe or clinging to a barrel in a storm, going up and down in the waves. When he arrives many miles later at a tropical destination he meets Henry the hippopotamus in form of a big pop-up. They explore the jungle and Lars learns about a chameleon that changes color and how to climb trees and mountains. But Lars gets homesick and beautiful 3-D illustrations show Marcus the eagle arranging his passage back to the North Pole, and show Lars' journey on the back of Samson the whale back home. Fun to read and play and beautiful to look at. And if you like this one, don't miss Lars' next adventure in "Ahoy There, Little Polar Bear". It features some really fun and improved pop-ups.

A sweet book about a little bear who adventures away from his parents and with the help of a friend, finds his way back. Teaches value of obeying parents. I teach third grade and use it to teach directions, continents, Arctic region facts and the importance of friends and teamwork.
