Not every child needs candy or a gift in their advent calendar to make it wonderful and this calendar has beautiful and amusing drawings behind each door. This is a very secular calendar, however, and not even one drawing is based on anything to do with the Christmas story. Even the last door on the 24th, where one usually expects to see a manger scene, just has a drawing of a baby polar bear. If your idea of Christmas is that it's just a day for gifts, then this is a beautiful calendar, but if you think the reason for Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus, this calendar will be disappointing.

The calendar is beautiful. It also has a good thickness to it, so I expect it should last for quite a few years.

In this day of interactivity, this product was sadly lacking. It was cute to look at but not very exciting to use.

Advent is about magical anticipation, not candy! Opening the window to see the surprise is quite exciting to children who haven't been bred to equate "exciting" with "tangible. Read more
