5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely music
Patrick Doyle is, in my mind, the best composer of the late20th century. Without fail, every time I sat in a movie theatrethinking "this is a marvelous soundtrack", the music wascomposed by Doyle. "Little Princess", I think is his bestwork...My favorites on this soundtrack are "Kindle MyHeart", "Tyger Tyger", "Ramayana",...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Princess Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
The soundtrack I would rate as "Fair", but it left out 2 music scores that was in the movie. The tune Miss Minchin was playing during the "reading session" and the piano score during the birthday party scene. Some of the selections on the CD are too short.

The soundtrack doesn't match the quality of the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Kindle My Heart" ~ Music For A Little Princess, March 21, 2006
This review is from: A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
'A Little Princess' is an absolutely delightful film released in '95. Poorly promoted by Warner Brothers, it never received the acclaim it desired. The same can be said for the musical score of composer Patrick Doyle.

This movie soundtrack comprised of -28 tracks- is an enchanting blend of classical and Indian melodies interspersed with the youthful voices of a girls choir chanting mantras and lyrics borrowed from the poetry of William Blake. This inventive combination of musical genres and lyrical choices make for a multi-layered listening experience.

Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kristina's Review, March 22, 2000

This CD is magical, and for individuals of all ages to enjoy. It is very much eclectic. I am in awe of the cultural aspects of it, as well as the English style music I have had more exposure to. My favorite song on the CD isn't even it the sample songs, and it is absolutely amazing. This CD warms one's heart and kindles one's spirit. It shows the beautiful inner-soul of innocence, provides hope, and has a bit of magic. If you don't have the movie, either, it's a must have! I adore it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best film score of all time, September 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Patrick Doyle's "A Little Princess" score is my absolute favorite soundtrack of all time. Every song is distinct, but I am amazed by the overall unity of the 28 tracks. While all tracks are solid, my favorites are "Breakfast", "Angel Wings", "Miss Munchen School for Girls", and the unforgetable "Kindle My Heart". I never tire from listening to it. The film is also among my favorites, and after watching it again recently, I was struck by how intrinsically tied the film and score are together. They complete each other perfectly. This score introduced me to the wonderful works of Patrick Doyle, who has become my favorite composer. If you like this one, check out "Great Expectations", "Henry V", "Dead Again", and "Sense and Sensibility". Doyle received some recognition for this score, but he should have won the Oscar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gentle and Entrancing, January 2, 2006
This review is from: A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For those fans of Patrick Doyle, this, out of everything else, has got to be my favorite. With a delightful, childish quality that leaves you smiling after most listens.
My particular favorite elements of this muisc, are Mr. Doyles incredible compositions for harp, like in "the Miss Minchin School for Girls", as well as the subtle blending of the choir during songs such as "the Attic" and "Compassion".
All the songs are wonderful, with "Crewe and the SOldier", "On Another's Sorrow", "Breakfast", and "knowing You by HEart" were my absolute favorites.
AN excellent score worth owning, no questions asked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem of My Soundtrack Collection, July 23, 2005
This review is from: A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I don't know if I love this CD because it is sentimental for me (reminds me of being a little girl) or because of the music itself. Either way, the melodies are engaging and only bettered by the Indian influence. The songs do vary in feeling and sound, sometimes choir, sometimes instrumental, but obviously with 28 tracks you're going to hear some repetition. Still, I have no problem listening to this CD all the way through, and even after the four years of constant listening I only love it more. Definitely worth having, even more than the movie itself.

I love listening to music like this. The songs remind me of a beautiful crisp, clear autumn day. The harp is lovely, and overall just a great score to listen to at the end of a hard day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fit for a Princess, September 8, 2005
This review is from: A Little Princess: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is entrancing. The emotion of the book is portrayed so beautifully through Patrick Doyle's score. He also wrote the scores for such films as "Much Ado About Nothing", "Sense and Sensibility", "Gosford Park", "Bridget Jones's Diary", and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". The song that Sarah Crewe's character sings brings me to tears every time I hear it. Just like watching the movie. Buy it!!!! You won't regret it. Plus, it's virutally impossible to find in the stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars It really does kindle your heart, no matter how sappy that sounds, December 29, 2006

If you've seen the movie, chances are you haven't seen it in awhile. Go watch it and think music. NOW you will see why this soundtrack is so very necessary. The trenches tracks are just heart-wrenching. Indian colours (yes, there is a sitar) along with Doyle's gift for beautiful lines (remember the waltzes and prettier bits of 'Goblet of Fire') mesh into a must-have soundtrack. This is seriously lovely. The soundtrack also sports a number of songs for child choruses, all of them, save "Kindle My Heart", I believe, set to William Blake poems: "Tiger, Tiger" is a sprightly little fugue that should make you snicker if you're paying attention to the scene and the lyrics.
