Book Description

July 18, 2000
Everyone loves a warm and crumbly homemade treat hot out of the oven. But who knew that making cookies,  cakes, pies, and brownies could be so much fun? Adriana Rabinovich, owner of the Little Red Barn company, is a master at creating dense, moist cakes; gooey brownies; and buttery cookies that have her customers oohing and aahing with pleasure. In The Little Red Barn Baking Book, she reveals how easy it is to shower big treats on friends and family.

Adriana's desserts, breads, and party tidbits all pack a flavor punch and they're so addictive no one will want to stop at a "tiny sliver." Pumpkin Gingerbread, Velvet Butter Cupcakes, Coconut Cream Pie, and Cheesecake Swirl Brownies are guaranteed crowd pleasers. Even the hapless home cook will soon be turning out pies, strudels, and layer cakes smothered in buttercream frosting just like Grandma used to make. Adriana works her magic on muffins, biscuits, and scones; quick breads; cakes and frostings; pies, tarts, and strudels; brownies; and cookies with surefire recipes that are simple to prepare. She also shares family strategies for entertaining on the quick with recipes for hors d'oeuvres such as Dijon Parmesan Hearts, Sesame Choux Puffs, and Crisp-Baked Polenta Sticks. And for home cooks who tremble at the idea of kneading dough or rolling out pastry, Adriana provides a section on basic techniques, as well as tips for picture-perfect results.

Adriana makes it effortless to sprint to the finish line at a bake sale, dazzle friends and neighbors at a potluck, or compete with Mom's sacred pecan pie.
With maximum pleasure and minimum fuss, she truly makes baking fun again.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a book on baking..., August 17, 2000

This review is from: The Little Red Barn Baking Book: Small Treats with Big Flavor (Paperback)
I bought this book and found myself as engrossed with the anecdotes and clever design layout as by the recipes. I read it cover to cover and then started baking. The recipes are simple to follow and yet emerge from the oven to rave reviews and requests for the recipe. To which I reply -- get your own book! This one won't sit on the shelf collecting dust. It will be up on the counter, spine nicely cracked, gathering flour and bits of chocolate in between the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous bites of heaven!, May 27, 2002
This review is from: The Little Red Barn Baking Book: Small Treats with Big Flavor (Paperback)
While I consider myself to be an accomplished cook, I've never been all that good at baking...in actual fact most of the cakes and cookies I've ever baked have turned out to be inedible! This book, however, is a godsend and all the recipes turn out perfectly every single time. The results have been an absolute hit with my family, friends and dinner guests, and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed either. You have simply not lived if you haven't yet tried her 'Devil's food cake', a divine, rich chocolate cake. I also love the Cinnamon Buns, Zucchini and poppy seed loaf, Savoury Pumpkin Bread and Cheesecake Swirl Brownies.

The book does not restrict itself to desserts and has a small section on canapes and hors d'oeuvres. Try the Spicy Gougeres (a savoury version of a profiterole made with Gruyere cheese), the caramelized onion tarlets or the Pepper jam tartlets. Yum!
