A Fairy Tale... Classic?, April 27, 2000
This review is from: Little Red Riding Hood [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Synopsis: A little girl maned Red Riding Hood is being stalked by a wolf (in the worst wolf suit ever) and his skunk partner (voice by Flipper), who is enamored with Red's parrot.
Unfortunately, they both also sing.
This is... gosh. How does one describe badness of this level? The wolf suit is so poorly assembled he actually knocks his own nose off in one scene. The woodsmen have a disturbing interest in a small little girl. Scene continuity appears to have been inspired by Ed Wood as people run from late-night thunderstorms that strike in the middle of a clear day. I have told people about this movie and they don't believe me. I show it to them as proof and they stop asking me for movie recommendations. This movie is so *bad* I loved every minute of it.
If you are like me and enjoy bad films and are a fan of MST3K, then this is a must for your collection. Otherwise, well, you're in for a shock.
Not that you won't be anyway.

Depraved, Perverse, Surreal and Funny, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Little Red Riding Hood [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Little Red Riding Hood frolics around town, being so cute and adorable it's pretty nauseating. Everyone adores her. Lumberjacks jockey for the priviledge of carrying her on their shoulders. Men line up to enter a wrestling contest when they learn that first prize is a kiss from Red. Never mind that they're in their 30s and she's only about 7. Everyone seems just a teeny, tiny bit too fond of Red. Scratch that...they're all way too fond of her.
She's being pursued by a man in a cheap wolf outfit, who croons, "She's so beautiful! I must have her!" Does he want to eat her for dinner or ask her out? The wolf has some sort of crypto-homo thing going on with a rather effeminate skunk.
And people sing. When Red sings, her little-girl voice is replaced by an adult opera-style singer, which is definitely surreal. When this first happened, I wondered who was singing, and it was surprising when I realized that Red's lips were moving along with a voice that was totally inappropriate.
And then there's the scenes where the Wolf dresses in drag, once as a peddlar and again as the Virgin Mary. And the scene where Red confronts a monster and tells him to be gone in the name of God. Weird religious stuff going on there that nobody can quite understand.
Although it was made for the younger market, it's definitely not for kids, and not for most adults. This looney film is best appreciated while drunk or cracking jokes with friends. I've been told it no longer plays on TV because of all the perverse content, which you can tell was not deliberate. These people had no idea what they were doing.
