If you were to find a male conterpart to Ruth Brown, it would be Little Richard! Although many paople have different ideas of what rock'n'roll is, I think this music has more in common with New Orleans boogie woogie & r&b. The music is all uptempo and can easily be danced to if you know how to jitterbug or jive. The music also qualifies as sort of "jump blues." Many modern swing bands today like Indigo Swing, Royal Crown Review, and many others use the basic wailin' saxes, wailin' vocals with pounding boogie piano, so this music in many ways would influence the swing revival of the late 90's, which has already faded. In anycase this is awesome r&b, r'n'r, jivin' swingin' jumpin' blues'n'boogie woogie. Awesome vocals throughout.

I originally purchased this CD in the mid-80s when I was putting together a collection of 50s and 60s music. I had many of the songs on the old 45 rpm format, but the records were pretty well worn out. Well, if you're thinking about 50s rock 'n' roll, how could you ever miss getting something by Little Richard, and Rhino Records put out this wonderful compilation of "Little Richard: 18 Greatest Hits." It was perfect!

Rock 'n' roll was an outrage. Everything about it was a slap in the face of those who liked traditional popular music. Perhaps that's why I liked it so much. Almost all critics were claiming rock 'n' roll would never last and the adult population had serious questions about the future of American youth. It was just about at this time that Little Richard made his appearance. Well, if rock 'n' roll was an outrage, Little Richard was an outrage to most rock 'n' rollers. He was loud, brash and offensive, but he made beautiful music, the likes of which I'd never heard. It really rocked, and it was funny. I still laugh when I think about such songs as "Good Golly Miss Molly," "Lucille" and "Tutti Frutti," to mention a few. And do you remember the tepid imitations by Pat Boone and others? I guess you just had to be there to fully appreciate Little Richard, but even if you weren't you can still enjoy his music and this disc is a wonderful way to do it.

This Little Richard compilation is just great stuff! It's a quality recording. The sound is great. This CD will deliver a flood of memories if you like late 50s music, and will be a wonderful addition to any 50s collection.

Bought this years ago and was stolen. This was one of Rhino Records first and best remasters. This put Rhino on the map for a reason. Out of all the 50's groups, Little Richard is one of the few, along with Fats Domino, Elvis, & Chuck Berry, that can come out with a Greatest Hits CD that can blow your socks off- and this does.

This is a great collection of 18 of Little Richard's best songs. Great, classic material. Highly recommended.

Little Richard/18 Greatest Hits (Specialty): Well, maybe Little Richard wasn't exactly "the Originator of Rock N Roll" (seeing that his `act' was a wholesale copy of a fellow by the name of Esquerita). However, he didn't copy anyone when doing his own songs, seeing that he wrote, or co-wrote, nearly all of his hits (He is the Richard Wayne Penniman listed among the song writers). What an amazing list of great songs Mr. Penniman (I mean, Little Richard) performed! As to this particular collection, the "18 Greatest Hits" is the perfect gathering of his most exciting songs. You just can't claim to have a decent record collection (excuse the old term) without having this CD (or something comparable) of Little Richards Hits. This one is Highly Recommended.
