4.0 out of 5 stars Little River Bands first album has good tracks throughout.
This first album of Little River Band shows how vital Beeb Birtles was to the bands harmonies. It has the classic long version of "It's a Long Way There" as well as "Statue of Liberty","I'll Always Call Your Name"and "Emma". A bright album of classic 1970's pop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Long Time to Find "A Long Way There"
I looked for a very long time trying to find the extended version of "Long Way There" on other sources, but finally resorted to puchasing this album. It's a hard one to find, and Amazon was the only place I did find it finally. I'm not sure its worth the price of the entire CD for just one song, but it is one of my six all-time favorite rockers, so I bought it. Not...

4.0 out of 5 stars Little River Band's debut album, September 19, 2000

LRB's first album has great harmony vocals and some good guitar work. The fact that it has the original version of "It's A Long Way There" makes it worth the price, which is incredibly low considering this is an import. Other good songs are "Meanwhile...", "Emma", and "I Know It".

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic '70's "Middle of the Road" pop, August 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Little River Band (Audio CD)
The first album released by this quintessential Australian band. The main songwriters (Gerard "Beeb" Birtles and Graham Goble) have put together some finely crafted material. Good lyrics, catchy tunes and hot guitar licks, makes this a very good album. Don Henley from the Eagles reckons LRB is the "Best singing band in the world" and it's easy to hear why he says so...........

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album, April 22, 2010

Debut albums are usually interesting in the variety that they offer. There are the suddenly famous hits that brought the group to the forefront of the country's musical "watch list", the lesser known (and usually for a good reason) cuts that really don't go anywhere, and the gems in the rough that become favorites. The debut album of the Little River Band (titled "Little River Band") has a few of each of the above. Standing to the front of the hits in the album is the rare, full 8+ minute cut of "It's a Long Way There" (almost worth the price of the CD by itself), the popular "I'll Always Call Your Name", and the hit that put them on the map in Australia and caused them to tour the U.S., "Curiosity (Killed the Cat)". "Emma", "Meanwhile", and "I Know It" are the rough gems that, even though didn't become "chart" favorites, are great little songs. The only cuts that were on the lesser side were, "The Man in Black" and "Statue of Liberty".

I've been a fan of LRB ever since I listened to a copy of their "Greatest Hits" CD. As I've found out as I've started to collect copies of their individual albums, these Australian soft rockers (especially the original line-up of lead singer Glenn Shorrock, guitarists/vocalists Graeham Goble and Beeb Birtles, lead guitarist Ric Formosa, bassist Roger McLachlan and drummer Derek Pellicci) are a great band. They harmonize wonderfully with one another and are excellent musicians. The guitars are impressive, bass playing superb, keyboards outstanding, and percussion (understated somewhat, but) right on the money.

If you're a fan of LRB, don't stop short by just listening to their "Greatest Hits" album, get a copy of this terrific CD (and do it quickly before it goes out of circulation) and then branch out and add any of their other dozen or so albums to your collection. Especially recommended by this reviewer are: "No Reins", "Diamantina Cocktail", and "Sleeper Catcher".

The first album recorded by the Australian Little River Band is probably their finest apart from their second album After Hours. Prior to their MOR/Pop personna of the 80's this album has their original rock/jazz/country fusion laced with impressive harmonies. Along with Mellencamps' Scarecrow and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road a must have for an album collection.

I have been looking for this album since 1975. The whole album is fantastic, the song "meanwhile" is one of their all-time best.

Having been owner of only the Greatest Hits, I decided it was time to sample the other material of LRB and I was very pleased. Other than the known hits, the rest of the music is better than okay and is well worth a listen. I hope to be able to have a complete collection of all LRB's material in the near future.
