Review

"If you're not familiar with Sophie Hudson already, you're about to find out why all of us who know her want to be her best friend." - Beth Moore, New York Times bestselling author & speaker

"This is one unstoppable book- once you start reading, there's no stopping!" - Ann Voskamp, author of the New York Times bestseller One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are

"Threads of love, family, and faith hold the stories together, but it's Sophie's laugh-at-life humor that sings forth from every page." - Ree Drummond, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks

From the Back Cover

Here’s the Thing: Family is worth celebrating.
And since I’m Southern, I would almost always advise that the celebrating should involve a table where both the fried chicken and the laughter are abundant.

But as wonderful as family life can be, it can also be complicated. Family can get under your skin like nobody’s business.

No matter what, though, I love my people to pieces. I imagine you feel the same way about your family. And while food may be what brings us to the table when we get together, it’s the people who provide the real nourishment. As we join hands and bow heads and break bread, God faithfully teaches us deep, lasting lessons about loyalty. About love. About Him.

This book is a collection of some of my favorite family stories. I’m just as tickled as I can be to share them with you.

And I hope you’ll feel right at home.

I've read Sophie's blog for the past four years or so and she often makes me laugh and her new book is no exception. These stories about her family will make you laugh until tears are streaming down your face. There are also moments in the book that will make you cry. Sophie has such a knack for storytelling and when reading these stories I felt like I was sitting right beside her listening to her tell them and at other times, I felt like I was riding along in the car with her family to pick up a bucket of fried chicken. Sophie ties in messages of faith through her storytelling which make the book that much more meaningful. Faith and Family are important to us Southerners! The end of the book contains some really great southern recipes which I hope to try out soon. If you are a fan of the Boo Mama blog, then you will most definitely be a fan of this delightful book.

A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is a hilarious and touching and sentimental and - did I say HILARIOUS? - account of life in a southern family. It celebrates all that is good and right about living below the Mason-Dixon line. In the south, we believe in fun, family, food, and FAITH. The stories Sophie Hudson tells about her family and friends in the town of Myrtlewood could be true of life in most any southern town, which makes her writing so relatable. With every story she told, I thought, "My family does the SAME THING!" She will make you howl with laughter and then spin you right into Truth so fast you never saw it coming. But you'll be nodding your head in agreement just the same. She's a gem of a writer, and I hope this is the first of MANY books to come!

This was a trip down Mississippi memory lane for me! Sophie"s memories reminded me of my "growin' up" years outside Laurel, Mississippi where life lessons were taught in the kitchen in the loving arms of family. It was truly the sweet life where faith, family, good food, love and laughter reign supreme. Sophie Hudson is a heartwarming story-teller. I look forward to sharing this wonderful book with family and friends. I am looking forward to book #2!

I've been reading Sophie's blog (boomama.net) for years and have gotten to know her personally through some mutual friends. After reading the book, I feel like I know her entire family!

A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet is absolutely delightful. Anyone from the South can relate and appreciate her blend of vivid storytelling and hilarious anecdotes about growing up here. Most importantly though, she does a beautiful job weaving the life-changing thread of Christ's redemption and love through each and every page. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy of the book today. It will make you laugh and cry, appreciate and remember, and look to the Cross. Sophie...you definitely "got after it" with this one!

I grew up in the south and spent a lot of time with grandparents. My family was different than Sophie's in a lot of ways, but the deep roots of family are the same. Food..yes, please. Fun times with cousins..yes again. Funny stories of family incidents..yes. Deep in the heart of all of us should lie a desire to leave a legacy of faith and family and with both should come a healthy dose of laughter and tears. This book is full of it all.
