This book has done more to help my first and second graders learn to enjoy reading than all the books in my school put together! There isn't a week that goes by that someone doesn't beg me to read it to the class. Many of my students have actually gone out and bought their own copies (very rare for the neighborhood in which I teach). Every K-3 grader should have this book in his/her collection!

As children lend an ear to Grossman'e counting book, they will have but one question: "What creature will that girl eat next?!" Through words and images, excitement abounds on every page as the reader witnesses the progressive feast of one ravenous little sister. Grossman's words and Hawkes' illustrations keep the audience in a state of anxious anticipation. With predictable rhythm, Grossman's lines unite with the whimsy of a song and the silliness of a cartoon: "My little sister ate three ants. She even ate their underpants." Children can easily master the repetitive wording, becoming active and eager participants in the telling of the story. Beginning with the consumption of one hare, each page build upon the former, adding more sustenance to little sister's belly. As she eats across the pages, little sister's apparel transforms, providing context for her current meal. Eating eight worms, little sister has donned a bright red chicken suit; outfitted with snorkeling gear, she reaches for seven polliwogs. On almost every page the girl's round, gaping mouth dominates, amplified by her monstrous shadow and her exposed gullet. With vibrant hues in mostly primary colors, Hawkes' illustrations extend Grossman's text. After one edge-of-their-seat journey through the pages, children will giggle with desire to hear this unimaginable tale again and again.

The day after "My Little Sister Ate One Hare" was featured by our library story time, the bookstore in our area had six copies on order. We gave a paperback copy of the book to my son's first grade classroom library. To keep the students from fighting over the book, his teacher had to put up a "waiting list". The book has been so popular, the school purchased a hard back copy for their school library. My daughter just turned five and reads it every day. This is a "must have" book for any child.

This book is a hilarious rhyming story. Sure to be a hit with about any kid!

The little sister eats all sorts of creatures (a hare, ants, etc.). But only when she eats the peas does it all come back up in the type of humor that kids find very funny. Nice pictures.

I love this book! I plan on using it in my future classrooms. My 4 year-old nephew asks me to read it to him everytime he comes to my house. The illustrations are wonderful and the writing is great! This book is a must for teachers at all grade levels because lets face it every kid would love to read a book with the words "throw-up" on almost every page!

`My little Sister Ate One Hare' is absolutely priceless! Our copy is torn and battered from constant reading yet still our daughters dissolve into giggles every time they hear "My little sister ate three ants. She even ate their underpants". Bill Grossman clearly knows what kids find funny and has a keen appreciation for what is just plain silly. It's descending repetition (Think "12 days of Christmas") also has helped them to improve their vocabularies and reading skills, if not their table manners.

The title made me pause, but the cover picture stopped me in my tracks. With long bristling hair, and a gaping mouth capable of swallowing a rabbit whole, the young tuxedo'd magician releases her grip on the frightened hare just above that wide open capital C mouth. It's such a mesmerizing image I felt compelled to see more and wasn't disapponted by what I found between the covers.

"My Little Sister" amuses, startles, and teaches in one wonderfully entertaining package. Young readers look forward to each turn of the page, anticipating the mad mayhem to follow. Here's a counting book that reinforces number concepts while reinforcing reading skills with rhyme and repetition on every page. Youngsters with whom I shared this book were enthralled by its magic and especially enjoyed the juicy bit of irony that is the book's ending.

Youngsters love repetition, the unexpected , and gross situations that make adults squirm. This book won't disappoint them.

Would you ever want to eat ten ants? Well I wouldn't. I would watch the show because this book is so good because she eats animals also because there parts and good a audience. I like the show. I also like this book because the book is a good and interesting read. Also because it's good for kids to read. I like what she does. She is a funny character. The book made me feel happy and it was funny and amazing. It's interesting to see what happens in the book. I read it. It is good. You should read it too so you can see what this girl eats!

OUR DAUGHTER LIKES TO PRETEND TO EAT THE CREATURES TOO (SHE SAYS THE ANTS & THEIR UNDERPANTS TASTE THE BEST). OK, THE STORY IDEA OF THESE CREATURES BEING EATEN IS A LITTLE STRANGE, BUT YOU JUST NEED THE RIGHT SENSE OF HUMOR. THE PICTURES ARE REALLY GOOD & IT'S A VERY FUN BOOK. OUR DAUGHTER WILL REQUEST IT BE READ 3+ TIMES IN ONE SITTING. I'M PICKY ABOUT OUR BOOKS & THIS IS ONE I'D HIGHTLY RECOMMEND & DEFINATELY GIVE AS A GIFT.
