I wasn't very impressed by this book., May 26, 1998

This review is from: Little Sister (Mass Market Paperback)
Little Sister, by Patricia MacDonald, is a muddled mess of a book. It sounded like it was going to be good when I read the jacket, but the book just goes downhill when you actually read the book. It's about this woman from a small town who returns for her father's funeral, to her little sister whom she doesn't like and blames for her mother's death. The little sister (who is 14) happens to be dating this psychotic twenty-year-old. And instead of doing the intelligent thing, like breaking them up and carting the little sister off to the city, the "responsible" older sister sticks around long enough for them both to be in danger. I'm not terribly impressed by stupid people, and like for the heroes and heroines of the books I read to have a reasonable amount of smarts.
