Steve Metzger is the bestselling author of more than sixty children's books, including "Detective Blue" (starred review from School Library Journal), "The Mixed-Up Alphabet," and "Skeleton Meets the Mummy." He is a former teacher of young children and currently enjoys reading his stories during school visits. Steve had a typical 1950s childhood growing up in Queens, NY. He currently lives in Manhattan (not far from Central Park) with his wife, teenage daughter, and Biscuit, a talkative cat.

I am actually the wife of the person named here . I am a children's librarian and read this storyto the children when it snows. It is one of my favorite picture books; the children enjoy it very much. The story is really quite philosophical--it shows the significance of a tiny snowflake who would otherwise be unnoticed. In fact ,the snowflake becomes the twinkle in the eye of the snowman. The illustrations are colorful, and are easy for very young children to "see." I love this story.

I bought this without seeing it first and was disappointed. The story is about a snowflake who gets to ice skate (the adventure). I had hoped for something more informational on snowflakes, and I also thought the interaction with the 'mean' snowflake to be silly and unnecessary.
