5.0 out of 5 stars great addition to the series, April 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: A Little Bit of Soul Food (World Snacks) (Board book)
After being a little disappointed with Yum Yum Dim Sum, I was so happy to read through A Little Bit of Soul Food. My kids love it too. We just moved to the South from California....the sushi and Mexican food depicted in Sanger's earlier books were familiar to us and we enjoyed reading about our favorite foods. Now we have another book of familiar yummy foods to read about!

The backgrounds are inspired by Gee's Bend quilts, a treat for the fiber-art lovers out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy!, December 12, 2005
This review is from: A Little Bit of Soul Food (World Snacks) (Board book)
I purchased this book for my nephew's first New Year's Day gift last year. The subject matter was perfect. In our family (ex-southerners) we always serve up a BIG, traditional Southern meal on New Year's Day. All of the foods depicted in this book are familiar to us. From okra and hush puppies to cornbread and 'nana pudding. What a great idea for a toddler book, and the paper collage/fiber art is pretty good too. A great way to introduce your little one to Southern cuisine and culture.

This is one of our favorites of hers! My son loves the rhythm and rhyming of the story and I love looking at her illustrations. Without fail, after reading this, I want a big plate of fried chicken and some greens. A fantastic board book!

If you are a foodie and want to share your love of food with you little one these books are perfect. The art is a mix of paper cutouts with found objects and the rhyming story is very cute. You'll be repeating things like "Hola Jalapeno" to your little one with glee! I just wish this author would put out more of this series of books.

My family is full of soul food lovers. I grew up on southern specialties & love that my little boy has his own book about collard greens & fried chicken;) This is probably my son's fathers favorite book to read to him. I'll sometimes over hear them in the room discussing the food & my little guy with very few words saying "yum yum". I think that this book would make a nice addition to any little ones library (under two that is).

i can't write in all caps, but this series of baby books from amy wilson sanger are our absolute favorite. i have all 7, and give them as gifts to lucky friends. so funny, so cute, so creative and a great way to learn about world foods, really. my older daughter likes to read the dessert sections to our baby and we have even experimented with some of the foods. A MUST HAVE FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES!
and, sometimes amazon has the 4-for-3 deal so you can get them all.
