5.0 out of 5 stars come on, try it, you'll like it!
If you've never heard Girlyman, give them a listen. As a long-time fan of close harmony, I have to say that Girlyman sings some of the best I have ever heard! Take a cup full of Peter, Paul and Mary, throw in a spoonful of Simon and Garfunkel, a dash of CSNY, and top it all off with a liberal sprinkling of the Indigo Girls--and you get the taste of Girlyman. But beware,...

1.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BLENDS
One of the best new folk/jass bands we have heard in a long time.
Saw them recently on stage with the Indigo Girls and they were a wonderful compliment to the show. Great harmony !!!

But beware, once you try it, you can't listen just once!

The new album, Little Star, is simply an awe-inspiring follow-up to the first album, Remember Who I Am. The Gman sound has grown--even tighter, closer harmonies and seeking, insightful lyrics. The subtle densities of the instrumentations provide an able backdrop for the harmonies, but never obscure the lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Girlyman is anything but a Little Star!, June 1, 2005
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
The amazing sounds of Girlyman will hook you at first listen. This harmonizing trio produces a sound so deep, it is hard to believe they are just three people. The addition of piano, organ, and other instruments on this album only improves their sound! Little Star says volumes about love, war, gender, and other social issues facing our generation. You'll be moved by what you hear...words can't fully explain the beauty of this group!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Harmonies, October 18, 2005

I picked this up because it was recommended based on some of my other purchases. Yep, they were right on. This album reminds me of Cry, Cry, Cry (Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, & Richard Shindell). The three members of this band alternate lead vocals throughout the record. The others fill in with glorious hamonies. It's smart, interesting, complex, and fun. If you like acoustic folk music with solid harmonies, you need to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, funny, and smart, June 1, 2005
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
This CD is amazing in so many ways. Many of the songs are ridiculously beautiful (Soldiers, I Know Where You Are, This Is Me) and the harmonies are unbelievable. Some of the songs are fun (On the Air) and genre-bending (the country/bluegrass Kittery Tide and I Wonder Where You Have Gone). Several are political or social commentary (Superior, Young James Dean, Soldiers, Commander). The genius of this band can't be explained. Just take a listen to all the clips and you'll be hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lush harmonies & intelligent lyrics makes this CD addictive, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
Girlyman(Ty Greenstein, Doris Muramatsu, Nate Borofsky) has a unique quality of connecting with their audience, in a powerful way, from the first time they come onstage. Their music has such lush and interesting harmonies, with lyrics that are intelligent, that if you don't know what to expect, they bowl you over. Some of their songs are just haunting. This CD captures that quality, and shows off many of their talents with sounds ranging from more contemporary folk to bluegrass and some pop. Speechless is a lovesong with a haunting melody, great lyrics, and of course wonderful harmonies. It stops me in my tracks everytime it comes on. Seeing a live performance is ideal, but this CD is the next best thing.

I stumbled into this magical trio when they opened for Dar Williams in Newport, KY. "Speechless" and "This is me" brought me to tears. The next day, I immediately hassled the record store to hold this cd for me (as they were sold out and backordered). Not only do they have beautiful, soul touching songs mentioned above, but they include smart, sharp political songs that make you want to shout it out to the world.

This is a record that we all need to hear now.

Thank you, Girlyman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first time!, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
I've seen Girlyman live many times, and they're just amazing. Their covers, which are not available on CD, are often beautiful and sometimes hilarious. For those of you who don't have the chance to see them live, Little Star is the next best thing. The songs on the CD sound so close to the live versions that you can sit back an imagine being there. If you want real music played by fiercely talented musicians who clearly love making music, Little Star will live in your CD player for weeks. Girlyman has combined the best aspects of the folk, pop, rock, and bluegrass genres. Their music is a rare mixture of lush three-part harmonies, well crafted lyrics, emotional depth, humor, and social commentary. I have been addicted to Girlyman's first CD, Remember Who I Am, and Little Star is proof that the band is getting better and better. This is easily the best CD released this year. I love all the songs on Little Star, but my favorites are On the Air, Young James Dean, Soldiers, Bird on the Wire, and This is Me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music as always., April 22, 2006
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
I saw Girlyman in concert with Dar Williams and let me tell you they stole the show...even though they weren't the mainliner band. I absolutely love this CD! It always give me chills to hear how well their voices harmonize. I'd definately love to see them again. You can't go wrong with this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous group, superb CD, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
Just got back from Northampton, MA concert. Sat through 2 sets. College crowd, banter appropriate to crowd, talented trio of musicians (all multi-instrumental), compelling music, great harmony...no, GREAT harmony. They position themselves as folk artists, and while this isn't folk the way this sixtysomething remembers it, I see their intent and they succeed at redefining the genre. Little Star loaded with quixotic themes, solid selections from 1 to 12. Just make sure you get to #12 -- it's a gem!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars plus, September 5, 2006
This review is from: Little Star (Audio CD)
Such a wide range of music types on one cd, everyone will like something. Most people will like them all. Indigo Girls are still my favorite, but Girlymans harmonies are "3" times better.
Im doing my part to spread the GIRLY word!!!!
