5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
Ever since I had my first baby I've been reading nothing but fun, easy, chick-lit. Unfortunately, even though it's all my tired brain can handle, it always seems to leave me only half-satisfied. I expected that same lukewarm satisfaction from this book. Imagine my shock when my expectations were shattered. Chick-lit? Yes. Easy read? Yes. Trite? Heck No! I...

2.0 out of 5 stars I probably would not have read this if I had known what it was about. Women's fiction lovers should enjoy it more than I.
REVIEWER'S OPINION OF GENRE:
The first Lani Rich book I read was "Wish You Were Here" which was a romantic mystery. I gave it 4.5 stars. I wanted more. I bought this book thinking it would be another romance novel, but it was not. I wish authors would clearly label the genres on the outside of their books, especially when they change genres. I'm having trouble...

I expected that same lukewarm satisfaction from this book. Imagine my shock when my expectations were shattered. Chick-lit? Yes. Easy read? Yes. Trite? Heck No! I laughed out loud and cried too! I liked this book so much that the day after I finished it, I started it all over again. I am truly impressed, and will pass this book around to my friends and relatives. This, in my world, is the best compliment I can give a book. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing and poignant read, December 24, 2008
This review is from: A Little Ray of Sunshine (Paperback)
Former child star Lilly Lorraine spent most of her life ignoring and mocking her only daughter Emmy James, a young woman who has grown up to doubt her ability to love and be loved by someone else. As EJ leaves her small Oregon town with a big, burdensome secret on her back, she begins to heal with the help of an angel, Jess, who magically drops into her life at a gas station. Jess convinces EJ it's time to return home and deal with news brought to her by a childhood friend -- and begin to understand, and possibly forgive, her estranged mother.

A fun and poignant read, I really enjoyed this book -- it was full of plenty of twists to keep me moving quickly through the plot. There were huge unanswered questions looming over most of the novel, and I'm happy to say Rich effectively resolved the loose ends by the conclusion. Full of humorous scenes and colorful imagery, it was hard to put this one down. I loved watching EJ reconcile with the people who used to love her most in the entire world -- and still do.

I loved this book by Lani Diane Rich. This is by far her best book! Dialogue was very witty. Read this book in one day it was so good. I hope she will continue with Jess and Dig's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Fun Fun, July 8, 2008
This review is from: A Little Ray of Sunshine (Paperback)
I would give this book 4 1/2 stars if that were an option. I enjoyed it from almost the start. I had a little problem getting into the beginning. I thought the angel part was a little hokey, but after the initial I was hooked. I loved the story and fell hook line and sinker. What a great story. The story between EJ and her Mother was amazing. Throw in the story of a left lover and Jess the angel, what could be better. This is a great story with just enough emotion and realism to make it all work. What a great fun summer read. Don't miss this one you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars totally engaging, February 25, 2008
This review is from: A Little Ray of Sunshine (Paperback)
I couldn't put this down. It's so engrossing. It's got Rich's trademark wiseacre humor, but it goes deep to real, affecting emotion. Great characters, great moments, complicated relationships, and a touching romance. I loved it.

I couldn't put it down. It's fun and funny and warm and sweet but not sappy. Now I want the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love all of Lani Diane Rich's books, but A Little Ray of Sunshine and The Fortune Quilt are my very favorites. A Little Ray of Sunshine is a fun read with great dialogue, sweet moments, humor and a little bit of angelic mystery. Glad to see this book available for the Kindle, and love the new cover! If you haven't read Rich yet, this is an excellent introduction to her work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A Little Ray of Sunshine by Lani Diane Rich is one of my favorite books to reread. The story starts with EJ living on the road in an Airstream constantly running away from her past and her regrets. That all changes when Jess's car breaks down at the gas station where EJ works and Jess decides this means she's supposed to help EJ. That night EJ's childhood friend shows up to tell EJ that she's expected to show up for her mother's eight wedding, this one with Digs's father as the groom. Going back will mean facing a mother who ignored EJ for most of her childhood and facing the man she had been engaged to before she left home. I enjoy EJ's narration, but I decided I was hooked the first time I read Jess explaining how she had to kidnap EJ and her Airstream. Watching these two as they make their cross country journey and then face the changes that have happened during the six years EJ's been gone is so much fun. I adore watching these characters interact and grow, and come back to them time and again. A fulfilling women's journey with lots of laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Ray of Sunshine, July 25, 2011
A little Ray of Sunshine brought me laughter and tears in the best delivery system possible. Jess is the perfect counter part to EJ's cynical outlook on life and was able to show me a few of life's lessons in a very believable manner.
