Book Description

3 and upP and up
This comprehensive resource to the best picture books, nonfiction, nursery rhymes, fingerplays, action rhymes, and craft ideas for preschool storytime is ideal for children's librarians, preschool and primary teachers, and parents. It contains references to 1,000 beloved books for children ages three to five, along with the complete text for 500 action rhymes. Practical program planning and presentation tips, an extensive listing of further resources, and a first-line index to the rhymes provide invaluable solutions for an old dilemma—how to keep preschoolers' attention long enough to enjoy and make story-time worthwhile for all.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This updated, expanded edition of I Don't Want to Be a Teapot (1966) is a lively resource guide to great picture books, nursery rhymes, nonfiction, fingerplays, action songs, and craft ideas for preschool story time. Children's librarian Cobb has organized the material into 63 themes, but her focus is on good stories and songs rather than on sticking rigidly to a particular subject. She includes valuable program planning and presentation tips and useful bibliographies, all of which show and tell of her commitment to helping adults bring children the pleasure of great stories. Hazel Rochman

5.0 out of 5 stars The favorite of all the children's librarians I know, October 22, 1999
This review is from: I'm a Little Teapot! Presenting Preschool Storytime (Paperback)
All of the children's librarians in my system love this book and would be lost without it. It is their "storytime bible". Jane Cobb has come up with the most helpful storytime resource I have seen in ages (and I have seen a lot). I've had this book for a long time, but was moved to just now write a comment on it. I was checking Amazon to see if Ms. Cobb had maybe written another like it. I would hate to see "I'm a Little Teapot" go out of print. Future children's librarians should not be deprived of such a treasure.

I run a public storytime that caters to a wide variety of ages and I rely on this book for help - every season and every session. Great ideas and a wonderful selection of topics and materials are just a part of the charm of this book. The only thing better than this book would be this book plus another volume by the same author with more themes!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for kindergarteners, December 28, 2008
This review is from: I'm a Little Teapot! Presenting Preschool Storytime (Paperback)
I used this book with my kindergarteners when they started coming to library as a special last year. It was great to keep them interested and attentive. I loved it! Then it disappeared in the middle of the year and no one returned or found it. I had to buy another one to get through the next school year.
