This review is from: Little Tikes 3 in 1 Trike (Toy)
The Little Tikes 3-in-1 Smart Trike is exactly what it claims to be, 'Smart'. Our 17 month old was more than ready for a tricycle but we wanted one that he could be pushed in until he was old enough to reach the peddles and ride on his own. This is the perfect learn as you grow tricycle. It starts off with a safety loop and shoulder harness for the toddler. And the push bar allows the adult to steer. The peddles also have a unique feature. They allow you to move the 'clutch' ring outward and disengage the peddles so that the toddler who can reach the peddles but isn't quite ready to actually keep up with the peddles while it's in push mode can rest their feet on the peddles without it being dangerous. Then when the toddler is ready to peddle, the clutch ring can be moved inward to engage the peddles with the movement of the front wheel. This is a great idea! In the second stage the shoulder harness straps can be removed from the seatback safteyloop and the shoulder harness straps are to be attached to the seat to become a lap harness. - (Something that wasnn't clear to some of the reviewers I read previously). So in the second stage you still have a seat belt. - The final stage, Stage 3 is simply to remove the push handle and the stationary footrests fold and flip up conveniently out of the way. All in all this is a very well thought out design. The construction is also very sturdy with an all steel frame, but the safety features are what really sets it apart from the crowd. - I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a tricycle for a toddler just starting out and who can't yet reach the peddles. They can enjoy it for many months until they are ready to graduate to a small bicycle with training wheels. - Oh, and don't forget to always have yor toddler wear a safety helmet, and once they start riding by themselves to not ride out of the driveway on to the street without stopping... Teach them to stop and look for cars, it will be a lesson well worth teaching. - Ride safe.

The idea is great, the execution is poor,

It took us a while to put it together. This trike is a TOY, not a mini-bike. The wheel does not turn much to either side, and the handle in the back is not aligned so you have to keep it turned to a side if you want to push the bike straight, which makes it very difficult to actually take the kid for a ride. I tried to align it, but the construction is not adjustable. Of course, it could be that my trike is defective, but looking at the overall quality, I am not impressed. The yellow rounded thing in the middle that's supposed to keep the child inside got unattached from the wheel after one ride outside, and there is nothing we can do to keep it attached. The canapé is not really sturdy, keeps folding back when it's windy. Plus to protect my son from the sun, it has to be positioned right above his head, but it's so low that his head is touching it, so he slaps it with his arms, and it gets folded. Basically, it's useless. My son also can completely place his feet on the ground while sitting on the bike and that interferes with the ride and ruins his shoes. I find that weird hence he is only one year old! The toy is supposed to last till he is three, but I don't see that's happening. In a few more months, he will completely outgrow it. On a positive side, he loves it. He can spend an hour in it while someone is pushing him. I wish the trike was a better quality.

I am returning this immediately. I was very disappointed in the quality-mostly cheap plastic. It would have been nice to have rubber wheels instead of plastic. I never did get the back snapped onto the seat-it wouldn't slide into the slots. Finally finished (somewhat) with assembly and found that the wheels would not lock as they are supposed to for a younger child. The tricycle seemed really unstable unless going really, really slow. My 13 month old son's feet kept getting hit by the pedals as they would not lock. Very disappointing.
