We bought this kitchen because it replaced the Little Tikes Cookin Fun Interactive Kitchen, which had a perfect score. After buying the product we realized that Little Tikes forgot to include the screws, we went back to the store and the other kitchen in stock also did not have the screws. We ended up going to Toys R Us to buy the toy. At first, my husband tried putting the toy together, but none of the parts fit correctly so after spending 1 1/2 hours at step 3 he gave up! We ended up paying Toys R Us $10 to assemble to toy, which was so much easier.
So far my daughter likes the toy. She is 2 years old and likes to pretend, however there are some drawbacks. The oven does not have enough space to put anyting other then flat items in it. Which is not fun because she can't put her pretend Birthday cake in the oven. The heating elements on the stove do recgonize foods however I have not heard 100 phrases and the oven does not recongize foods. We went ahead and bought all four of the accessory packs as well. We haven't tried the Spanish or French yet. I'm a little disappointed with the small design of the kitchen. My daughter nearly tips the toy over when she closes the oven door with a little force. Plus no more than 2 kids could play at this toy at one time. It's a decent play kitchen, but I'm very disappointed that Little Tikes is discontinuing the Cookin Fun Kitchen when it was so highly recommened. Overall I would suggest paying the extra $10 and having Toys R Us put it together for you, plus they offer extended warrenty. I think that the toy has potiental.

We picked up this kitchen for my daughter and due to the enormous box it came in, we decided to put it together ahead of time...sooooo glad we did.
First of all it took almost an hour to put the kitchen together (Not one word of written instuctions...only pictures). Once assembled, the door for the "fridge" would not close and if you tried to adjust it to close...it would simply fall off. The electronics sound great in the description but are at best confusing. All responses are generated through the two knobs (one for cooktop and one for oven)and the phone does not have any electronics to it at all. The size of the oven, fridge and cupboards are so small that if you have any additional food or kitchen accesories, you will not have any place to store them. The only good thing I felt this kitchen offered was a "storage tub" to hold accesories but again, no place really designated to store it either. Long story short, we took the kitchen back to the store and got our money back and are now looking for a different set. I have always loved Little Tikes for their innovative and durable products but this purchase was by far one of the worst toys I have ever bought from any manufacturer. Hopefully, Little Tikes will re-think this one.....

I just purchased this kitchen at Costco for $70. It came with all 4 extra playsets, as well as the "cookin fun" set with the mixer. These accessories alone generally cost $80! My 2 1/2 year old son and his 2 year old cousin played with this toy all night, and even kept getting up from watching a Barney video to play with it some more. I think we will definitely get $70 worth of entertainment value out of this toy!!! I would have preferred a bigger, more realistic-looking kitchen, but we just simply don't have the space for it right now. This is a nice, compact unit.
I agree with some others that the fridge door doesn't close all the way, and that the oven is kind of small. But that stuff seems to bother the parents much more than the kids, because our 2 boys figured out right away what they could and couldn't put into the oven! It would be nice to have a dishwasher or something filling that space below the oven, but that'a minor detail. I find the sound isn't that loud on the highest setting, but I suspect my son won't care about the sounds anyway (at least that's what I'm hoping -- will save on batteries!) My son is very hard on toys so I do expect some things will ultimately get broken, but it seems like a pretty sturdy toy so far. I ended up getting a larger storage box that fits all the accessories, and will just use the Rubbermaid box that came with it for myself! I was able to put the unit together in about 45 minutes with the help of a 2nd person. One note: it's not really clear in the instructions that the very first parts you screw together, you have to leave the screws loose in order to fit the next parts onto them. It's not a big deal to loosen the screws, but if it had been clearer it would have saved some time!

My son recieved this toy, and it has not been played with yet. For starters, it was very frustrating to put together. Only pictures in the directions. Secondly, my son loves noise, and we figured he would love hearing this kitchen talk. Too bad you have to have everything off and be very quiet to hear this toy. I saw a volume control but realized taht it was already on high. The oven doesnt stay closed, and you cant fit anything in it. We thought at least he will like to open and close the fridge and cabinets, but there is nothing to hold them closed, they just swing open. This toy is defintly going back. He does however, like the cups and silverware that comes with this kitchen, and that alone isnt worth $80.

I purchased the Magic Cook Kitchen after reading the other reviews and had my doubts. I am nothing but happy and satisfied with the results of the kitcken. My daughter just loves the sound effects and the accessories it comes with. Although some of the areas, like the oven are smaller than i would have liked, it still does the job for my daughter.
The instructions are pictures only, but with patience, it is totally possible to assemble. I think the Magic Cook Kitchen is well worth the money, only to see the smile on my daughters face when she says she is cooking like mommy does!!!!

I too just purchased this kitchen at Costco for $70. It came with all 4 extra playsets, as well as the "cookin fun" set with the mixer. My daugther is 20 months old and she loves it! She especially loves the phone and opening the oven. All of her friends come over and it's the 1st toy they go for. The only problem I have with this toy is the refrigerator door does not close. Overall it's great!

We got this for my son's 3rd birthday from Costco for $68. The package includes all the accesories, birthday set, pizza set, breakfast set, cooking fun baking set, pasta set. It is a good deal if you get all these accesories together. The "refrigirator" portion does not close very well. I think it could have been made better. Another reviewer said, the volume was too low. It has a setting for the volume in the oven and at the higher setting the volume is adequate.
My son is enjoying it.

I bought this for my 2 yr old daughter. I was so surprised at the quality for Little tykes. It has no storage and the refridgerator door would not stay closed. I think it should cost half of what it does. I purchased the Step Two kitchen when my daughter was three, and it is way better by far.

My 5 yr, 2 yr and 1 yr old LOVE this kitchen and it has withstood 2 months of use without any glitches! I love how it speaks different languages, though just a small introduction to different languages what a great feature. All three of my kids play with it on a daily basis. They understand, well my 2 yr and 5 yr, that some imagination goes into playing with anything. So if there isn't any sounds, such as for the 'water' features, they make their own! My only wish would be that the oven was interactive. Who cooks cookies on the stove? Anyhow, overall I'm pleased with this kitchen.

I read reviews on this toy before buying it. But the bad reviews did not stop me from buying it and I am very glad because my 20 months old loves her kitchen!
It is very very sturdy and as a bilingual family, we appreciate the English/French switch. I do not understand other parents who had trouble assembling it because the instructions are very self-explanatory. You do not even have to read anything, there are only pictures, it could not be easier. It took me about half an hour to put it together but I was doing other things at the same time (and I am blonde :-) We bought some additional package of food and had no trouble storing everything. The volume is just perfect, not too soft, not too loud. If you want something that is irritatingly noisy, this is probably not the toy for you. The inside of the oven is small but my daughter is not bothered by it. It really does not affect her play. You can stick food in it except for the birthday cake. She had trouble closing the door but I easily fixed the problem by removing the two white plastic pegs inside the oven; it does not affect the toy in any way. One downside: I have not heard 100 phrases. However I have heard full sentences not just words like some people mentioned. Perhaps Little Tykes meant 100 phrases between English, French and Spanish. But what matters the most is that my baby girl really enjoys this kitchen and it is the most important thing I am looking for in a toy. |
