Little Tikes Adjust 'N Jam Basketball Set

We bought this product for my son in September 2008 and have had a number of issues with it due to it's poor design:

- The locking mechanism to lock the plastic standard in place doesn't retain the basket at the height you want to set it and keeps sliding down. This is due to the flimsy hollow plastic of the base/standard. The locking mechanism can't get a good grip on the indentation that was molded to keep it at a certain height.
- The rim is a "break-away" rim that is held up only by a plastic bump. Over time as it wears it leaves the rim sagging down.
- The nets are very difficult to thread through the tiny holes they molded into the rim and are always coming undone.

I got this for my 2 year old twins. They love it. I anticipated the net coming down from the reviews I read so I super glued it and it seems to have done the job.

I purchased this for my 5 y.o. and 18 month old boys. They love it. I just wish Little Tikes would come up with a way to snap the net onto the rim...It is frustrating to have to fix the net every few minutes because it is coming undone.

I love this product for my 6 year old and 18 mo. old -- the problem with the net coming down was very frustrating...UNTIL we used small black electrical ties available at any hardware store to attach the net to the rim. No more net falling down. I did buy additional balls from the Little Tykes website.

Very well made product. My 3 yr old loves it, and it was very easy to put together.

The breakaway rim and the adjustable post for this product are made of flimsy plastic. My 1 and 3 year olds had fun with it for a few weeks, but one afternoon of 4-year-old-cousin dunks, and the plastic was mashed up to the point where the rim and the post would not stay up. Duct tape and screws kept it out of the trash for another few weeks, but no more. (All the relevant parts are hollow, molded plastic, so there's not even the satisfaction of a broken piece that you could try to glue, tape, screw, splint or otherwise mend -- the plastic just loses its shape and won't hold in place.)

I won't give it a 1 -- I admit we used it rough -- but if you can't dunk on a kiddie hoop I don't think it deserves more than a 2. If you are prepared to keep heavier balls* and bigger kids away from this, you'd probably get a longer life out of it, but I don't think it's reasonable to have to use kid gloves on what is meant to be an active toy. (*By heavier balls I mean you probably shouldn't use other toddler-sized basketballs and playground balls -- the balls included are like those ultra-light balls that you buy in the grocery store for $0.99.)

This is the first review of anything I've ever written, and I'm doing it to spare parents the pain and expense of purchasing this basketball hoop. We purchased this for our basketball obsessed 3 year old after he outgrew the smaller Little Tikes basketball hoop. First, as others have said, the net definitely does not stay on. We purchased a new "real" net to put on it and that fell off too. We used twist-ties to attach the net to the hoop as one reviewer suggested and that lasted about two days. Additionally, the "breakaway" part of the rim is a little too "breakaway". It now won't stay up at all, after only three months use. My son always wants me to stand next to the hoop and hold it up while he shoots, which of course I can't/won't do. We are now trying to find a new basketball hoop. Terrible product.

Breakaway rim started sagging immediately because plastic where the rim hooks became indented. Rim now falls everytime a shot is made. We will be returning the product.

Best purchase I've made for my grandkids. They love it and play with it all the time. From age 3 to age 13.

Pole tilts too far forward, I can't get it to straighten up as the insert into the base is wobbly
