4.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining!
I bought this for my daughter for her third birthday. I was expecting it to do more than it did. The only thing that talks is the burner on the stove and as of yet have not heard the 700 sayings and we did buy all the food packs that are available for it. Don't get me wrong, I love this thing. She loves it a lot too. The more we play with it the more I hear it say things...

The more we play with it the more I hear it say things I hadn't heard before, but like I was saying...the only part of the kitchen that does the talking is the stove burner. The iron is hard to get working...you must fiddle with it a bit before it starts to make sounds, but I may have just gotten a dud iron.
There is a washer and dryer that makes cool sounds when you push the button and she gets a kick out of pretending to do her own laundry. There is a coffee maker, microwave, oven and dishwasher but there are no sounds for any of them. The food peices must be put on the burner on the stove to make the kitchen talk. My daughter loves it when the kitchen talks back to her. She loves the pretend phone that comes with it too. The great thing about this kitchen is the fact it folds in half...if you need to make space in a room, just fold it in half...but as of yet my daughter has not let me touch the kitchen, I must just sit in the floor and watch her!! For anyone looking for a great toy for hours of fun, this is it....but be prepared to lose your kid for awhile!! I think I have spent more time eating all her pretend food and sitting in the floor watching her do laundry than I have doing my own actual cooking and laundry.
I looked at all the other kitchens at toysrus and did a lot of checking around and this kitchen was my first pick and I am sure glad I got it. It was easy to put together and it is very sturdy.

TERRIFIC BDAY PRESENT !!!

I am editing my review to all those having issues with the iron...I called little tikes and they told me what was wrong...there are two metal contacts on the inside of the handle on the iron and your fingers must touch both of the contacts at the same time for it to work, just thought i would add that to anyone having issues...thanks.

We got this for our daughter's first birthday and she loved it for a few days but then she got bored with it. We opted for this open because it seemed safer than the other. No small parts or anything to break off and the doors really couldn't smash her fingers. We realized she was a little young for one but she loved the one at church and we thought this one would be ok for her.

But in our search for a safe set for a younger child we ended up sacrificing most of the entertainment factor. It doesn't really do as much as some of the other kitchen. It's also kind of small. She got really frustrated when all her pots and pans and food wouldn't fit it. The doors also seem to stick at times.

But our main problem was that it tipped over really easily! She would be playing and it would just flip. We had to keep it up next to a wall or she managed to flip it every time. Granted she never got hurt but it was just a matter of time.

So we loaded it up and took to a local consignment shop. It went to a very nice 3 year old and just recently came back with the same problems. So I would suggest opting for a different model that's more fun and safer.

I purchased this kitchen for my 3-year-old daughter for her birthday. I had originally looked at the previous model at Toys R Us, which was a lot more interactive (i.e, the sink made sounds, the microwave, etc); but when I went back to purchase it, it was replaced by this model, which was a little disappointing.

Don't get me wrong. My daughter enjoys this kitchen. She has played with it constantly in the few days she has had it. And it does come with several accessories.

I do have a few gripes, which are basically the same as some other reviewers. My biggest gripe is the iron does not work properly. You have to turn it in all different directions to make it come on; but when you put it in the ironing position, it does nothing!!!! My three year old can't even get it to turn on. I would think that I just got a bad iron; however, from reading a previous review, it sounds like they all do that.

Also, our kitchen only says a few phrases. We only have the food pack that came with the kitchen, though, and cannot find anyone that carries the intelli-tike food packages to get more; so maybe when we do, that will get better.

Overall, this is a pretty good kitchen. However, it would be a great kitchen if the iron worked and if the sink, microwave, oven, and dishwasher had some kind of interactive sound. For the price, I would expect these things and am a little disappointed. I don't know if this kitchen will hold her interest when she gets a little older like it would if it had more interactive elements.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tips over WATCH OUT!, August 9, 2005

Very nice colors and great washer and dryer with the sound effects loved that and even the burner with sounds but you can bearly hear it and the switch is located on the burner so the kids can push that back and forth all day long which drives you crazy, but that's about it, doors bearly opened very hard even for me to open and shut, my boys tipped it over right away not stable at all. I quess because of its round bottom it's just not safe had to return it. Because I have two boys that are playing with it and a daughter, not good for multible children. When the kitchen is open you can feel that any minute when opening one of the cabinets that it will tip.
I got the Step 2 Deluxe Life Style Kitchen very stable and worth every penny. Accomadates 5 kids at once and will never tip over and the kids won't get hurt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful unisex kitchen, although with a few glitches, February 25, 2005

My daughter (age 3) and my son (age 2) got this from Santa for Christmas, and they both play with it every day. They really enjoy it! The reviews here helped us make our decision, so I want to list a few pros and cons to help other potential consumers.

PROS:

(1) STURDY -- My kids are typical toddlers, so a toy must be able to withstand their abuse. This one does. The doors aren't flimsy like the Step2 kitchen's.

(2) UNISEX -- My son looks just fine playing with this beige, blue, and celery-coloured set!

(3) VERSATILE -- Because our kids are so close in age, we needed a kitchen that would let them play together without their elbowing each other out of the way. The folding laundry section is a big help with this. You can open it up, to double the kitchen's width, or you can fold it behind, so one child can play on each side.

CONS:

(1) The iron is very hard to operate for little hands. You must wrap your fingers around the inside of the handle and simultaneously touch two metal contacts for the lights and sound to come on. My son gets very frustrated as he loves to imitate Daddy's ironing, but can't get the iron to turn on for him without help. I just can't understand what make LittleTikes come up with this design.

(2) LANGUAGE -- We like for our children to use their imaginations, so the bells and whistles are not important to us. However, when the kids do activate the sounds and voice, the language that comes on is usually either French or Spanish, since "English" is in the middle of the switch-settings and they push the button all the way over to either one side (French) or the other (Spanish). As another reviewer said, the French and Spanish voices are very fast and difficult to understand. The English speaker, on the other hand, speaks slowly and deliberately.

Overall, this is a great choice for a toddler's kitchen. I would recommend it over all the other kitchens on the market, which we thoroughly researched before making our LittleTikes purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Happy, November 13, 2005

I bought this toy for my daughter for her second birthday... I was really excited because everytime we go to her cousins house she goes straight to the kitchen. It took about 1 1/2 hours to put together and then out of all the things that are suppossed to make noise the only think that worked was the stove top. I tried to contact little tykes several times, but I could never get a responce. Also, It only came with 3 pieces of food which my daughter got bored with. Overall, I am very dissapointed with this toy... I am upgrading to the step2 kitchen, seems better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, flexible shape, and great colors, December 5, 2005

I chose this for my 2 year old son because it was much sturdier than the Lifestyle kitchens and it wasn't pink. He has played with it daily for the last year and now his 1 year old sister loves it too. Because the colors are neutral, we keep it in the living room next to the kitchen and it fits in well. People have even commented that it matched our decor!

The doors and counters are sturdy and there is plenty of room to store food and bowls. The ironing board doubles as extra counter space. My kids like to push the buttons, but really like using the counters, opening and closing the doors, and pretending to push the buttons on the microwave.

They rarely use the talking feature. The switch to turn it from Spanish to French to English is right next to the burner, so the kids change it all the time, but that's a small complaint. They weren't as enthralled with the talking feature as so many parent reviewers are. The kids like to pretend themselves.

To make the iron work, you have to make sure your finger is covering both metal pieces under the handle. After we were told that by the company, the kids could do it right away. We also got the mixer, which they love!

We also got cut-apart food to go with it and they love that. (The kind that attaches together with velcro - comes in plastic or wood).

It has held up well and still lives in the living room. The kids make dinner while I do. It's sturdy (even when my son climbed on it, it didn't break, though it can tip over).

I like that the ironing board can bend back to make a circle and they can play in the middle of the room on both sides. Or, it can be flat against a wall and isn't so tall that it blocks the wall or window too much.

Overall, we love it and would buy it again. I think it's the only toy in the house that is played with every day!

3.0 out of 5 stars just ok, January 8, 2006

My girls got this toy for Christmas 2005. I read all the reviews about all the little kitchen's at the time.

I have rated this way for the following reasons

1. as far as the doors go, other reviews were right. the doors stick and are hard to open and close. we haven't had a problem with the tip over factor, yet. it is really light wieght and it is a concern with the way that the doors stick.

2.As far as the Intelli-Tikes interactive technology, it is a neat idea but also a pain to deal with and kinda boring. I am constantly chasing down the pieces to the food and there is only one way that they "interact" basically they all do the same thing except interchange the name of the food. the french and spanish part isn't really going to teach them anything if they can't understand it in there native language first. my girls have picked up all kinds of spanish from dora because she repeats the word in spanish and english. this kitchen has a switch that changes it to all spanish, english or french. its all one way or the other. I don't see them using this as a learning toy.

3. other kitchens have more over all interaction. there is a working iron, a button on the dishwasher, and the one interactive burner and that is it.

personally I recommend going with the little tykes cookin' fun kitchen, a friend of mine had it and it is way cooler than this one. it doesn't use the Intelli-Tikes tech, but it has more actual different interaction on the kitchen itself. no lost expense food pieces and big enough for two kids to play with.

4.0 out of 5 stars House Husband in Training!, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Little Tikes Cook 'n Clean Kitchen (Baby Product)
As the mother of a boy, I was relieved to find that Little Tikes offered a play kitchen that doesn't scream "girl." My son was three when he received this toy for Christmas, and he couldn't get enough of it. So much, so that we temporarily moved it into the family room, so he wouldn't be tempted to play at bedtime. As time passed, he seemed disenchanted. I didn't think much about it, because children do that with toys. William has a drawer full of pretend food, and dozens of kitchen utensils, so his boredom wasn't due to the lack of accessories. The child adored the DiscoverSounds Kitchen, so I thought the Cook `N Clean Kitchen would be the ultimate in gifts. Then I noticed he'd play with the kitchen when friends came to visit. In fact, when the neighbor comes, the two cook and clean for an hour.

Little Tikes offers additional Intellitikes food packs such as the Birthday Pack, the Breakfast Pack, and the Italian Pasta Pack. They retail anywhere from $15.00 to $20.00 a set. It's kind of neat to place the grilled cheese on the stovetop and hear sizzling sounds and the voice say, "Grilled cheese, that sounds yummy. Careful it's hot!" In my view, they aren't worth the price though. In addition, some of the phrases are difficult to decipher, and the French woman is only partially comprehensible. I speak French, but not fluently, yet one would think an adult should be able to decipher a child's toy.

A Phillips Head screwdriver is required for assembly. There are 40 steps in all, which took me an hour and a half to complete. That includes carrying the box in from the car, down to placing the decals. The manual is in English, Spanish, and French, and is fairly easily to comprehend. The box is very large: nearly 4' x 2'. If you do not own a truck, or SUV, you may want to borrow one. Fortunately, it's not heavy. I carried the box without assistance.

I'm not convinced this is the "best" play kitchen for the price. There are no safety hazards, such as small parts to swallow, and the toy looks new even though we've had it for two years. One of the decals was "accidentally" peeled off, but Little Tikes is always good for replacement parts. Therefore, even though this toy hasn't received the action I was hoping for, it's still an awesome toy, that's extremely durable, and loads of fun when two or more are at play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kitchen!!!, October 4, 2004

We bought this Kitchen for my 2 year old son for his 2nd Birthday, we chose it over the Magi Kitchen as it was bigger and less feminine looking, as with all Little Tikes toys it is SUPER sturdy and he loves it, we bought all the accessories and both he and my 4 year old son have not stopped playing with it. My only disappointments were that it doesn't do more, as another review said the burner, iron and the washer are the only things which 'interact', perhaps the fridge or sink could have too, my other complaint is the language control is on the cooktop and my boys swtich it back and forth constantly. Otherwise a great Kitchen and I'm very happy with my purchase.
