5.0 out of 5 stars My 19 month boy loves this!!
I am a physician and a first time Mom and am absolutely thrilled with this product. For all of you who are like me and read all the reviews (sometimes multiple times) before buying any product for your child (paying particular attention to safety, educational value, toy appeal to children, and ability to last for years to come), this is a great toy for your child...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Big Disappointment
We bought this kitchen for our daughter's second birthday and it is a huge disappointment. The oven and dishwasher open like the refrigerator and don't mimic the real version at all. My daughter loves to play with the Little Tikes MagiCook Kitchen at her grandparents house, but doesn't have near as much fun with this kitchen. We are now looking at the Step 2 Kitchens...

I am a physician and a first time Mom and am absolutely thrilled with this product. For all of you who are like me and read all the reviews (sometimes multiple times) before buying any product for your child (paying particular attention to safety, educational value, toy appeal to children, and ability to last for years to come), this is a great toy for your child. Believe me, I have researched this thoroughly. After spending weeks reading reviews about the different kitchen sets, I narrowed my choices to this Little Tikes kitchen and the Lifestyle Dream Kitchen. I chose this one b/c it had more interactive units (microwave makes 3 different sounds, stovetop recognizes what foods are placed on the burner, and the faucet has running water sounds), was less expensive, and had kitchen shutters. I do like the "real" look of the granite plastic Lifestyle kitchen but like another reviewer stated, looks aren't everything. The assembly was easy. My son can't get enough of this new toy. He usually plays with toys for <15 minutes, but this kitchen set occupied his time for 1 hour, which is a record! He likes to pull up a stool so that he can reach the buttons on the microwave and loves opening and shutting the kitchen shutters. There is plenty of room for multiple kids to play with and they love playing peek-a-boo with the shutters. Be sure you have the room in your car to take this home (I had to put both backseats down in my SUV) and also the room in your house b/c it does take up quite a bit of space. Yes, I wish that the cell phone was interactive as well, like the Dream Kitchen, but my son doesn't seem to mind and likes to take it in and out of the cradle and say "hello". The kitchen comes with sparse accessories so I bought a set of kitchen pots/pans/basic dishware for $10.00 and surprisingly, there is enough space to fit all these extra accessories. This kitchen is more expensive than most but I know that the durability, imaginative potential, and the appeal to children will make this toy a good investment for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for kids 2 and up!, July 31, 2003

My two-year-old daughter received this for her birthday and she immediately took to it... We could not drag her away to play party games with the other kids!

Big pluses for parents: It's durable and sturdy, no worries about kids hurting themselves. Also, it's easy to put together. Took me about twenty minutes.

My only concern, as with any children's toy, is that there are loose parts that might get lost... These are food items, which could be easily replaced by generic kitchen-type toys. The only parts you would not want your kids to misplace are the foods (eggs/bacon, spaghetti, mac & cheese) which trigger the cooking sounds.

But I'm not sure I have to worry about those loose parts. My daughter made sure all of the foods, dishes, and pans were put away in the various storage areas of the kitchen. She was very particular about this.

All in all, a great play item for the kids. They can put their imagination to full use on this toy!

We orginally purchased the Tea Party Kitchen for our daughter, but it was so flimsy we decided that it wasn't worth the money we paid for it, so we took it back and purchased this one instead. It is very sturdy and assembled easily. It is more expensive, but you get more bells and whistles (literally) for your money. I'm not sure that a child needs all of the sound effects that it comes with (for example, when you put the chicken leg on the stove, it tells you that you're cooking chicken and that if you move it before the cooking sound is done, it will tell you to 'be careful it's hot!' and every single time it's done, it tells you to clean up. A bit of a nag if you ask me!). It has several functions, such as the microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, stove, oven, refrigerator so it really is like a complete kitchen. The sound effects are only for the stove, sink and microwave, but those are more than sufficient. The point of this type of toy is imaginary play, so you don't want to take too much away from the child! A couple of minor things that I noticed was that though the set comes with lots of pretend food, it does not come with plates or cups, but my daughter just uses the ones from her tea set so that wasn't a big deal. Also, we picked it up from the store and it almost didn't fit in the car because the box is so big. Overall, I am glad that we went with this kitchen because our daughter plays with it everyday and because it is nice and sturdy, I'm sure she'll play with it for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Kitchen, but not perfect, January 2, 2004

We got this kitchen for our 2 year old boy and also for his 5 year old sister. They had a homemade wooden one, but it took up way to much space, so we were looking to consolidate. The new kitchen had to have all the appliances of the old kitchen so they wouldn't feel cheated. We only had two to choose from that were gender non-specific (i.e. not pink). This and the fancy Step2 one. We liked the looks of the step2 one, but went with this one, mostly because it had a dishwasher (the step2 one in this price range doesn't). Its a good kitchen and we are happy with it. Here are the beefs:

The voice is annoying and interferes with creative play. Removing the batteries also gets rid of the sink feature, which they like very much.

The sink and cooking voice can't operate simultaneously, so there are sometimes disagreements when one child is washing dishes and the other is trying to cook. Also, the faucet doesn't turn off, it just runs for a set amount of time. This annoys my two year old. He has learned to turn the stove knob. Then the "water" stops running and it says, "What do you want to cook?"

The microwave is a bit high for our two year old, but he can reach it on tip toes.

The dials for the appliances don't click, offer resistance, or anything else that would make them appealing. They just free rotate.

The doors don't click shut or anything, they just lay against the plastic. So, super simple to open but not very satisfying for young children to open and close.

Limited storage space.

The phone is pathetic. No buttons or even numbers on it. The cheapest possible phone they could have put with it.

The kids are enjoying this kitchen immensly though, and I would recommend it over many other designs. When we assembled it, we put clear packing tape over the voice box in the stove. This queited it down some. It was way to loud to begin with.

I bought this toy for my home daycare and it is has been played with alot. The sink sounds like if has running water and the stove will talk to you. The microwave makes 3 sounds and they sound real. I think this toy is a little costly but it is holding up great.

We had the Cookin Sounds Kitchen by Little Tikes and were VERY disappointed. First of all, the top constantly came off. Second of all, the phone holder would never stay on, therefore making it useless. It did not have that many features either. It did not even have a fridge, like this one does. I got so frustrated by the thing that I took it back and got this one. I am so happy with this kitchen. Everything about it is great from the talking burners to the window that opens and shuts. My daughter, age 2 1/2 years old, loves to listen to her food cook. She LOVES to have her brother open the window and say "Mam, I would like some eggs and bacon". It also has a lot of storage. She can keep all of her pretend food and pots and pans in the kitchen itself. It has been used almost daily. It is just so much fun. I got mine on sale at Toys R Us, so I think this price is a little much, but it still is fair considering all of the options this kitchen comes with. I think it is definately worth the extra money. I really researched kitchens when I took the Cookin Sounds Kitchen back, so that I did not make the same mistake again. I think this is the very best option out there. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy, November 16, 2003

My sister n law bought this kitchen for her daughter last year for Christmas who was just about to turn two years of age..I have a one and a half year old daughter and a three and a half year old daughter who go over there all the time..This kitchen is very durable, realistic with its sounds and appearance as well too. One of the best features about this toy is that 3 children can play comfortably with the toy without too many arguments...It does come with some food and pots and pans and utensils...I am debating on whether or not to buy this toy as it appears larger in size or the Lifestyles kitchen as I would like for both of my children to be able to play with it ( without the youngest one having to grow taller to be able to do so )...This toy overall though is an excellent purchase..I do know that my sister n law had to fix the microwave as it was not working when they had first purchased it. Other than that though the toy is great and affordable and very nice in size compared to alot of the other smaller kitchens which in areas causes alot of arguing and pushing and shoving to be able to play...I do recommend this kitchen as I have seen it plenty of times and my children have played with this toy as well too..The sink is also a very cute feature with its sounds that it makes and realistic in appearance..This toy should last for years...It is very durable..

We purchased this toy for our daughter's 2nd birthday and I am very pleased with it! I read all the reviews on here and finally chose this one and I am glad I did! I'm glad it was the last gift that she opened because we couldn't pull her away from it. In fact, all the kids(girls & boys) at the party ranging from ages 2-7 loved it. It is big enough to entertain 3-4 kids without them getting in each other's way. It has everything a big kitchen has including the coffee pot. My husband drinks coffee all day and it is so cute to see our daughter "fill" his cup. The microwave door was warped though...probably happened when it sat in the box in storage. However, I called Little Tikes and I received a new door in 3 days including the sticker for the front of the door. I highly recommend this kitchen! It is well worth the money because she'll be able to play with it for years!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen sets are for boys, too!, September 29, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Little Tikes Cookin Fun Interactive Kitchen (Toy)
My 4 year old son says he wants to be a chef when he grows up. He's always in the kitchen watching, asking questions, and helping when he can, so we figured a kitchen set would be a great gift for him. I looked at a lot of reviews before deciding on this set, and it turned out to be a great buy. Although the interactive feature is great, my son has just as much fun playing with other food that didn't come with the set, and it doesn't seem to bother him that the kitchen doesn't talk about every thing. I like that it has a lot of different "areas" (kitchen, oven, refrigerator, etc), and there is plenty of room to store his little pots and pans. It seems to be holding up very well, and the realistic sounds make playing even more fun. About two days after ordering this, the new model came out (that has the outdoor set on the other side). Initially we wished we would have known and bought that one instead, but now I'm sort of happy we didn't. This takes up a pretty good amount of space in his bedroom and I can't imagine having something that you couldn't back up against a wall. The sounds aren't overwhelmingly loud, and everything is user-friendly - he hasn't needed to ask for help with anything. It's also managed to hold his attention for long periods of time, which is saying something for the kid who would normally play with cars & trucks 24/7 if he could. I really can't say anything bad about this product! Also especially nice is the fact that it's not in "girly" colors. I'm so glad a company recognized that kitchen sets are for boys, too!

This product was VERY easy to put together, took under 30 minutes and it is made to last! I went to the store to buy the Sweet Magic Kitchen but when I saw the one they had on display it was very poorly made, this one was right next to it on display and what a difference!! For the extra 10.00 this is WELL worth it! My daughter loves all the sounds it makes.
