My son of 9 months loves to push this little workshop all over the livingroom. He loves putting the balls in the slots and opening the little door. My complaint is that it is a little light weight and you really need to put it against something so that they won't tip over or come the other way and smack them in the face, both have happened to us. The sounds are not...

We purchased this item for our son's first birthday a month ago. When he gets home from daycare it is the first toy he plays with. He loves to put the balls in the different holes and watch where they come out. He enjoys finding different items from around the house to put into the little cupboard in the center, then opening it up and taking them out, and starting all over again. He enjoys the little mechanism that you put the balls into and pull the lever, and out pop the balls. The little telephone is a nice touch, too. He likes to put it up to his ear and babble. I have only two concerns about this toy. The first concern is how lightweight the work bench is. The first few times he played with it he used it as support to stand up, and if I hadn't been right next to him he would have tipped both the toy and himself over. The second concern is the size of the holes. He has reached into them a couple times to retrieve a ball, and has gotten his hand stuck. Overall, I would recommend this toy as a great one for you and your child to play with together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, but young kids should be supervised., July 28, 2001

We received this toy for our son's first birthday. He really likes it and plays with it a lot. He didn't understand how to do everything at first (like use the hammer to hit the shapes through the holes) but that means that the toy will grow with him and should keep him on his toes for quite some time. He quickly mastered putting the balls through all the holes and he really likes pulling all the containers out.

We don't let him play with the toy unsupervised though. He leans on the toy and tries to look into the top slots. This has resulted in the whole toy almost falling over with our son on top. He also stuck his arm into the green tube on the left and got it stuck. I had to lift him out of it while he screamed.

Overall we are really happy with this toy. Mainly because our son can't seem to get enough of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house, October 18, 2001

Our son received this toy for a birthday present (age 1). He immediately liked it and it is played with multiple times each day. It is a perfect size -- a big toy to the little guys, but small enough to easily move from room to room and not take up much space in a play area. The educational value is great for a infant/toddler toy. It has multiple shapes and colors. It also teaches concepts like object permanence and cause and effect. The phone is also a nice touch. Our son will frequently pick it up throughout the day and say "Daddy" and pretend to talk to Daddy at work. The only drawback (which is very minimal) is that some of the decals were difficult to put on. I would highly recommend this toy!

My son got this toy for his first birthday and it has been his absolute favorite ever since. Unfortunately, he reached through one of the holes to retrieve a peg he pushed through and got his arm stuck. Because of the way this is designed to have resistance on the pegs, there are somewhat sharp plastic parts sticking out. When I got his hand free, he was scratched and cut. It's broken my heart to take this toy from him, but it's a definite safety problem. I've informed Little Tikes of the problem, but they don't seem overly concerned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun toy but be careful, May 6, 2002

My son recieved this toy for his first birthday. It was his favorite toy at the time. He is now 18 months old and it is still his favorite toy. e loves hitting the shapes with the hammer (and everything else in the house). He's now working on telling me the names of the colors. The only problems with it are that it is lightweight. He tips it over very easily. Although he can now pick it up by himself, he couldn't when he was younger. He also likes to stick his hands in the holes and tends to get them stuck. Now he has moved on to putting his feet in the holes. So, be careful when the child is playing alone. In general, this is a fun toy with lots of fun and interesting things to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't know about my son, but I love this toy!!!, September 25, 2001

This is great! This is the toy you're looking for if you want to get on the floor and have some fun with your kid too! My son is 8 months old and he has fun just playing with the balls, banging the cups together and basically sticking everything in his mouth, but what's great is that when he tires of that there's so much more for him to do that this toy will grow with him. And there's lots of storage bins that you could probably buy additional "tools" later on to extend the fun.
This toy packs alot of punch for the price, definitely worth every penny.
Like a previous reviewer, I found applying the stickers the hardest part of assembly and gave up altogether on applying the sticker to the drill press, couldn't figure that one out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeds my expectations, February 27, 2003

Though, all and all, the reviews on this toy are good, the negative ones make me wonder what kind of expectations these people have in regards to a plastic child's toy. It isn't meant for children to pull themselves up on, but if they do and it falls over, I doubt it's going to cause a serious injury-just consider it another learning experience for your child. Sure it might have some cutouts that a child could get his arm stuck in, but so do many things (my child has yet to have this problem). Also, just becaue one child isn't interested in it doesn't mean it's a bad toy all around-every child, just like adults, has different things that turn him/her on. My son, for one, loves it. It has a variety of things for him to do, teaches him colors and shapes, and keeps him occupied for minutes at a time. It also fosters imagination (who cares if the phone doesn't look like a real phone-he thinks it is). My only complaint is that I'm constantly looking for the pieces because my son drags them all over the house (he loves to watch the balls roll around on the floor). Being he does this because he likes the toy, though, I can't really consider this a valid complaint. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't expect plastic children's toys to be as sturdy as concrete, be totally realistic, and have no nooks and crannies to explore. In other words, to someone with realistic expectations.

We bought this for my daughter when she was about 8 months old. She played with it for an hour and a half straight the first day and still goes back to it several times a week and uses all the "accessories" everyday. She loves the noises it makes and making the toys fall down into the bins below. My only warning is that it tips over when babies pull themselves up on it - we solved that problem by placing it against the wall, but it should be redesigned with more weight in the bottom (we had considered puching a hole in it and adding sand :) )We looked at the Discover Sounds Kitchen too, but this workshop had more interesting activities and just because she's a girl, doesn't mean she shouldn't learn how to use a hammer!!

My son of 9 months loves to push this little workshop all over the livingroom. He loves putting the balls in the slots and opening the little door. My complaint is that it is a little light weight and you really need to put it against something so that they won't tip over or come the other way and smack them in the face, both have happened to us. The sounds are not that great and have already broken ( with in 24 hrs.) I do not see this as a toy that he would be interested intil 36 months like the box says. Don't get me wrong my son does enjoy playing with this but I don't think I would buy it again if I could go back. If you are looking for something for your child to pull up on this is not the toy for you. Would be perfect for Grandma's house!!! Hope this helps somebody. I guess we live and learn.

I bought this for my 13 month old daughter to occupy her at grandma's hose one visit. She played with it for over an hour. I chose it over the Discovery Sounds Kitchen because the activities looked to be more what she liked to do. (especially the "drill press") Now a month later it is still one of her favorite toys, although it only holds her attention for 20 to 30 minutes at best. It was easy to assemble, the only tricky part is placing the stickers on. I wish we had bought it for her sooner.
