5.0 out of 5 stars 5 y/o loves the Little Tikes gas n go Mower
My son is going to be 5 and we did the annual Birthday Club trip to Toys R Us this evening.

He has a lot of toys, and really doesn't need anymore, but we go to TRU because it's so fun watching him on his birthday with the hat and balloon walking around the store for the perfect birthday toy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Does NOT go on the grass!
I bought this mower for my 19 month old son. He actually loves it, and I really like the way it looks. However.... there is not enough clearance from wheels to underside of mower to actually be able to push it on the grass!! My toddler tried and tried and tried to push it on our back yard lawn and it just gets stuck, gets stuck, gets stuck. He kept asking me for help. So...

My toddler tried and tried and tried to push it on our back yard lawn and it just gets stuck, gets stuck, gets stuck. He kept asking me for help. So then I tried and EVEN I could not make it go on the grass. A great toy if you plan to use it indoors on hard surfaces or carpet. NOT a good toy for grass. DUHHHHH. It's a lawnmower!

He and his dad got separated from me in the store, so as I was walking around looking for something that may catch his fancy, I glanced over and spotted this mower up on the shelf. It was the last one on the shelf. I also noticed it was on sale for $19.99 plus the $3 off card for his birthday. Not too bad of a price. So I was looking at it in the box, saw it had a pull cord, and a gas can. Two things he WISHED his other Little Tikes lawn mower and the FP Bubble mower had. I saw the box said 18 mos + I was wondering how small the handle would be, but I put it in the cart anyway.

When I finally found them in the store, my son saw it in the cart and that was it, he thought it was the coolest toy lawn mower he has ever seen!! He could not wait to get it home and open it.

He absolutely loves it! He loves the realistic pull cord with engine sounds and gas can. He is "mowing" my carpet. In the house, it's kind of loud, with the popping sound and wheel sounds. He's a tall boy for his age, but it's not too short of a handle for him. And even if he had to slouch down a little bit, I don't think he would care one bit. He loves any toy that is lawn care or motorized related. So this is as realistic as it gets as far as toy mowers. Best of all, NO BATTERIES!!

I purchased and returned this toy all in one day! My grandson was so excited when he saw the mower and the little gas can - then he tried to mow the grass! It would not move. He tried several times only to get angry and toss it! It works great on the hardwood floor, but it is a LAWN MOWER not a vacuum!

My 15 month old granddaughter LOVES this mower. The "pull start" rope is easy to pull, slips back into the mower by itself and creates the most wonderful motor noises - sounds like a real motor. I don't think she understands what the gas can is for, but she imitates "pouring the gas in" just like her dad's. She drags the mower wherever she wants, indoors and out. I'm not sure if her grass is lower or thinner than the other reviewer's, but she has no problem pulling it around. (She doesn't push much yet)

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a disappointing product!, July 14, 2010

I'm truly disappointed that I have a negative review of this product--I thought it was going to be the perfect little mower for my little guy! I love the start-up pull cord, the good-looking product and bright colors that Little Tikes is known for, and the GAS CAN is darling! My son's favorite part is filling up his and Dad's mower with gas before they mow...
ALL THAT SAID, the pull-cord wouldn't reel back up after only 2 weeks of owning the mower! And, like another review, the mower deck does not sit up high enough off the ground for it to move very well on grass. (works ok on the sidewalk, but.... it's a mower. For grass.) I also feel like the angle of the black handles is not right--if they were angled back a little more, it would be easier to push, but when you push the mower, the back wheels lift off the ground and the front dips into the grass.

So basically, I feel like this was a failure of a product! Great conception, and with a few tweaks it would be my top choice for a mower because of all the little extras. But definitely. needs. some. tweaks!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars overall good, some problems, May 18, 2011

we had the same string starter problems. pulled it and it never recoiled, after trying to disassemble the bottom and fix it, we just took it back for a replacement at TRU- no problems doing that. with our second one we haven't had that issue again.

to say that this lawnmower does NOT go on grass is really weird. it goes forward on grass but you cannot pull it backwards because of the back green overhang piece. it goes just fine on long, short grass or uneven backyard surfaces. my son has been pushing it since he was a year old, with no problems. he has to lift and turn to move it, but that's b/c it doesn't have swivel wheels.

overall it's a great durable toy. we bring it inside when we're not using because there are metal pieces. and other than the pulling backwards issue and the first one's string breaking, we've had no other issues.

My son is 2.5 and we ran over his previous lawn mower. After researching and reading reviews we went with this one. It was easy to put together and he has loved it ever since, he uses it both indoors and outdoors and loves pushing it through the snow in the winter, it keeps him busy for hours, literally. The extra buttons/knobs and gas tank are a huge bonus that the other mowers dont' offer. Plus no batteries, a huge plus in my book! It is one of the more expensive mowers, but I think well worth it.

This probably would be fine for outdoor use, but indoors it is almost intolerably loud. It's sturdy and my 2 year old enjoys it well enough, but be sure you have an incredibly high noise tolerance if you purchase this for your child. We can't use indoors at all on account of the noise.

My son received this as a gift before he was 12 months. He was walking, but wasn't tall enough to push it without making the mower do a "wheelie." Now he's 14 months and he loves it. The noise from the pull cord doesn't scare him (it did when he first got it), and the popping noise makes him laugh. A realistic and removable gas can makes it look just like grandpa's mowers.

I haven't used it on grass, that is for make believe play, but it works well over tile and carpet. It's well made and lots of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 18 month old LOVES this toy!, January 21, 2012
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Little Tikes Gas 'n Go Mower (Toy)
My son loves this toy. It pops as he pushes it all around our backyard. My son has grown tired of most of his toys but he continues to play with this toy almost every day and it has been 6 months since it was given to us as a gift. He even has had a few tantrums because I wouldn't allow him to take it with him on walks. Down side to this toy are the "extras" provided like the gas can and little "pull starter" (I have no idea what it is called). I don't know where the gas can has gone and the "pull starter" broke pretty soon after we got the toy. But that could have been due to abuse of the toy. We leave the toy outside so it has become weather worn. But the mower still pops and my son does not even notice the "pull starter" not working. He loves the toy!
