I bought this for my nearly 4-yr-old daughter who loves horses. Rather quick and easy assembly, but you really have to push hard to get the tail to click in. The box says you need a screwdriver, but no tools were necessary. She first took it for a ride around inside the house. We have tile floors--it won't go very well on carpet--and then took it outside for a spin. I really had to watch her ride because any big bumps or cracks in the sidewalk could mean a nasty head-over-handlebars spill, plus, since there's really no break like for a bicycle, any slope is potential danger--the horse rolls pretty fast! There is a break, which seems too close to the handlebars and often gets in the way, but it's not intuitive for kids to use and not very effective in slowing down--it seems it's either on or off. She loved the bounce-bouncing of getting the horse to go and the sound effects and got the gist of riding it rather quickly. Although you can steer the horse, it doesn't have that great of a turning circle, so an adult or older child has to pick up the front wheels and manually turn the horse. Watch your toes, this horse is not light! My 6-yr-old son helps his sister, plus he has fun on it too. It helps that there are two sets of footrests: lower for big kids; higher for the little ones. It seems to be a very sturdy and well-made toy, although the reins are made out of thin vinyl. They probably won't hold up too long, especially if the kids lead the horse with them a lot. All in all it's a fun toy. The kids use their imaginations in feeding, brushing and taking care of the horse, which is cute. It's a toy I would've loved as a kid, which I'm sure is a big reason I bought it in the first place!

I purchased 2 of these ponies for my 3 year olds for Christmas. It was all they asked for and carried the Little Tykes catalog around for months. When they saw them next to the tree Christmas morning it was heaven...for them and me. Minutes after they got on them BOTH of the ponies tails fell off. Figuring Mommy didnt put them in right, 3 other people tried to get them to stay on. No luck. Every time they "swished" off they'd fly. Then one of my girls showed me she had little black pieces of rubber all over her hands. I looked at the handle and the foam was coming off. I checked the other pony and the same thing was happening. Needless to say, I was getting more furious by the second. It took me 3 months to save up $400 to buy these things. The first biz day after the holiday I began my quest to contact Little Tykes. The pony did not exist in their service portion of their website. So I had to select a different product to even be able to email them. I received an email about a week later saying I needed to provide copies of my receipts, which I did immediately. About a week later I received a phone call from another company (?) saying the new parts were being shipped out and how sorry they were that I had these issues. 2 weeks later I received a large envelope in the mail - containing 1 tail.
I have tried to contact both Little Tykes and the mystery company (thank goodness for caller ID) several times (its now mid-March) and left so many voice mails I lost count. No return phone call. The ponies remain tailess (even the single replacement tail wont stay on) and Ive had to wrap tape around the handle bars. Its a great toy in theory, but the Little Tykes quality I had come to trust was just not there. And their customer service is horrendous. Never again.

My daughter received this horse for her third birthday and was very excited to give it a try. I was thrilled because it was so easy to put together - the tail was the most difficult.
I have two concerns with this toy: 1. The braking system is difficult and impossible for my three year old to figure out. I would never let her play outside with the horse. 2. She tipped it over on herself this afternoon while trying to get on it. I don't think that she would have been able to get out from under the horse if I had not helped her. The horse is very heavy. She loves horses and she loves this horse - she loves to make it neigh and she brushes it hair. Overall though I wish that I had waited a couple years to get this toy.

I purchased this horse for my daughter, who is 20 months old. She absolutely loves it. It is very well made. I would recommend it to anyone. I'm excited that she will continue to grow into it and be able to use it for many more years.

My 5 year-old daughter has cerebral palsy, and her therapists want her to straddle sit for at least a half hour every day to help stretch her spastic leg muscles. She usually despises that half hour, but since getting this horse, she hasn't wanted to get off. She can't do the bounce move thing yet, but she loves just to sit on it and watch TV.
We haven't really had it long enough to assess long term durability, but it is solidly made and has taken quite a few of the kinds of hits only 5 year-olds seem capable of doling out. It can be assembled without tools, except like most children's toys requiring a philip's screwdriver to open the battery case. I couldn't tell what small parts they are worried about for kids under 3. The only drawback I can think of is that it is rather tall and requires a certain degree of balance to stay on. For a 3 year-old I would probably make this an adult supervision only toy.

My 5 year old Daughter loves this pony!!! Wish we could have got her one a few years ago but I think she will like it for years to come. It's been a big hit with her 2 year old brother as well as family and friends. If your little one loves horses/ponies this will be a big hit. It is a bit heavy for little ones to move around but it seems like it is the right weight to keep it stable, no one has fallen off or tipped it over yet. It turns pretty well and was easy to put together.

Giddyup N' Go Pony was a birthday gift for my 5 year old grand-daughter, who has always wanted a real pony. This is like a real pony, he neighs, his tail swishes back and forth, and his head goes up and down as she bounces along on her ride.
She has so much fun riding her new pony all through the house, on the tile they go real fast and on carpet they go slower as if out for a leisurely ride on a sunny afternoon. The wheels on the pony's feet work well with all types of flooring. Pull out the car and watch them ride around in the garage or on a patio of concrete. The brake is by her right hand and easy to use if she wants to get off or stop. When she is finished riding for the day she brushes her pony, gives him a carrot and puts a blanket over him to keep him warm till their next ride. This is teaching her to take care of a pet the right way, without the mess that goes with a real animal. Giddyup N' Go Pony does not go backwards so when they get stuck in a corner I have to pick up the pony and turn it around for her, I think this is a great safety measure on a toy for children. Fisher Price makes their toys to last so I know this pony will be around for years to come. It is well worth the money we paid for it and my grand-daughter would not trade him in for anything. She has stopped asking for a real pony since her birthday with her Giddyup N' Go Pony.

My 6 yr old got this for her birthday, and this thing has been flying around the house every since. We also have Smores, which if fun, but not half as engaging and fun as this pony is. The horse actually moves! You ride it! Much better than just sitting on a horse that makes noise and moves it's head only. My 8 and 10 yr old are within weight limits, so they ride it as well. This thing moves fast on tile, and we have not had any tipping over issues. It is hard to completely turn around if you get in a corner - an adult or bigger child is needed to basically pick it up and turn it around. We love it, and it was worth every penny (no where near the non-Amazon prices here lately, yikes - you can get closer to $100).

Wow! Our 4 yr old daughter loves this pony, as does her 8 yr old brother. It is even sturdy enough to support a 5'9", 135lb adult. Yes, I admit I tried it. It was very easy to put together, even the tail snapped right into place. While it is fairly heavy and sturdy, our daughter has been able to turn it around by herself if she gets stuck. It maneuvers easily through the house on wood floors, tile and carpet. The brake does not appear to be designed for use by the child to stop while in motion since it is rather difficult to operate, but it does keeps the pony from moving when engaged. Both children (4 & 8)love this toy and get exercise while they play. it has been the Christmas favorite.

Nice Toy For Kids Who Really Love Horses,

This is a great toy for kids who really love horses! My 3 year old wakes up talking about horses and sleeps with horses every night, so when "Santa" brought this to our home, he was delighted. He really enjoys it; however, it is really hard for him to move the horse especially when he gets stuck in corners. He needs someone to pick the horse up and move it around. It really becomes a hassle for us to have to get up every few minutes to turn the horse around. I really wish the horse had a reverse feature. It is also pretty heavy. Overall, I think it is a great product, just wished it had a few more features to make it more little-kid friendly.
