4.0 out of 5 stars Good push and ride toy
My daughter has definetely enjoyed pushing this car around and piling things on the seat and in the "doll" seat. I think it helped her learn to walk on her own, which is what prompted our purchase. She also likes climbing on, off, and over it. She is just starting to figure how to "ride" it herself (she knows how to and enjoys having me push her around on it.) The...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, lightweight, unsafe
This a very basic toy, cheaply made and without any special features. Spend at least $20 more on a heavier, more substantial ride-on vehicle for your child. My two-year-old son fell forward and cut open his chin on our cement patio while slowly driving this toy. This toy is unsafe because it is very lightweight and the front end is not heavy enough to prevent a child...

My daughter has definetely enjoyed pushing this car around and piling things on the seat and in the "doll" seat. I think it helped her learn to walk on her own, which is what prompted our purchase. She also likes climbing on, off, and over it. She is just starting to figure how to "ride" it herself (she knows how to and enjoys having me push her around on it.) The only thing this is missing is an inseat storage compartment. Kids love collecting and hiding things, and it seems there is plenty of space for a compartment--it doesn't need to be big. Although then the seat might not be as "ergonomic," that is if you could say it currently is. I think it would be a good idea anyway.

Assembly was easy enough for my husband, although it did take about 30 min--there are quite a few pieces that go into putting on each wheel. It'd be nice if the wheels were preinstalled but then the box would have to be a bit bigger, which isn't as economical, so consider your time spent an environmental service :)

5.0 out of 5 stars This toy is an amazing hit!, July 28, 2003

My son is almost one and I really want him to walk (not that I'm a pushy parent but I'm pregnant again and he's hard to carry around.) The minute my husband put this together my son went crazy! His eyes got big, his tounge came out, and he made giggly noises as he pushed it everywhere through the house. When he runs into something that causes him to stop he hollars out for help. Not only is it a cute sight to see, but I feel like he is learning balance and coordination too. Not to mention that he is now becoming aware of the three dementional world in which he lives. True, it's a simple toy with no bells and whistles but that's what makes it nice. You child is sure just to delight in their ability to get up and go!

I bought this for my son, who has been crawling for 2 1/2 months and seems close to walking.
Pros: He loves it! This is a small, simple version of a push-toy/walker. It's great for apartment dwellers or folks who have limited space at home. It's small enough to fit well in my son's playspace, but large enough to support his weight. It's study, too - he's a rough 'n tumble kid, and the car has held up very well. My sister and best friend also bought Push & Rides, and all are still in perfect shape after four years of enthusiastic play.
Cons: It's a pain to put together. The directions are all in pictures (whatever happened to using words in instructions??). I've assembled entire pieces of furniture with less frustration.

I'm including my addendum to the instructions for those who want a little more guidance:
Parts List:
K (small, black) and O (large, gray) are tools. You'll need them to tighten the nuts, but will throw them out after assembly.
M: red screws; G: white anchors; H: yellow endcaps
The rest of the parts list is clearly defined.

Instructions:
1-Pull the three metal bars out from the bottom portion of the car. You'll have two skinny bars (E) and one thicker bar (I).
2-Take one of the skinny bars (E), and hammer one end into a small nut (J). It's easiest to do this if the nut is on top of a sturdy block. Do the same thing with the other skinny bar. You'll end up with two bars (E), each with one nut on one end. You'll have two nuts (J) left over. Set the bars aside to use in instruction #4.
3-Put the white plastic hubcap into the indentation of the black wheel (do this with all four wheels).
4-Take the skinny bar (E). Next to the nut (J), add the wheel so that the white portion is touching the nut, then add a washer to the other side of the wheel. Put the bar through the holes as shown, so that it acts as an axle.
5-Once you have the bar (E) poking through the other side, add a washer and then a wheel. Now, you just need to add the last nut (J) to make sure the wheel stays on securely. Take the two small black capnut tools (K). Fit one capnut tool (K) over the nut that's already on the end of the skinny bar. Turn the car on its side, with the capnut tool (K) on the floor.
6-Put the other nut (J) on top of the exposed end of the skinny bar. Place the other small black capnut tool (K) on top. Bang on it a few times with the hammer until both nuts (J) are securely locked onto the bar.
7/8-Push the white plastic anchors (G) into place as shown.
9-Hammer the yellow endcaps (H) into the handlebars.
10-Hammer the thicker metal bar (I) into one of the the larger nuts (N).
11-Put the bar (I) into the blue car base and add red handlebars as shown.
12-Use the larger gray capnut tools (O) to hammer both nuts (N) onto the bar (I) securely.
13-Pop a beer: you're finished!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Ride On Toy!, September 21, 2004
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Little Tikes Push & Ride Racer (Toy)
I bought this toy from a consignment shop thinking my daughter might play with it for just a little bit and loose interest. Boy was I wrong. She's had it now for 5 months and she pushes it every day! She's just now learning how to push herself on it so now it's going to get it's second stretch of use. At first I was concerned that it wouldn't be as great as the rides that have a steering wheel, but it turns out that it's better. My friend bought a ride on with the steering wheel and during the pushing phase it's quite frustrating to push because it doesn't always go straight if they leave the steering wheel turned. With this racer if my daughter wants to turn it as she's pushing she simple turns the car instead of fighting with a steering wheel. So my first thoughts were wrong and this turned out to be a great toy! I'm ready to buy one for my friend's baby. Super durablity and withstands all the crashes into our walls. Also easy and lightweight to turn over if my daughter decides to see what's underneath.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wheels don't turn, better for pushing than riding, October 15, 2004
By
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This is a very well-made toy that works best for pushing around and scooching a little bit forward. I also like the handle bars better than a round steering wheel. But I noticed that the positive reviews here are for children around 1 year old. I purchased this racer because it is low to the ground, and my small-sized 2 year old son has trouble reaching the ground on other ride-on toys. But my son has trouble navigating it around because the wheels don't turn. He is able to go very fast in a straight line, and he loves pushing it, but he can't really turn corners while riding it. I'll keep it around for younger kids, but I don't think it's very satisfying for a 2 year old who wants to "drive" his car.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Little Tyke Loves It & So Do We!!!!, August 28, 2003

My husband & I were @ Babies R Us a month ago, ONLY to buy new bottles for my 12mos. old, when low & behold, I strayed away into the toy section ( very common thing ). I then realized that my little cruiser was in dyer need of a new toy! But in more need of a little help with building some confidence in keeping his balance and having some security to hold onto, while on his cute chubby feet. My little SCOOTER needed a new toy he could push around & bump into furniture with, and after looking at all the other competitor's and my husband's frustration on making my mind up, I decided to buy this one. The price was right within our budget for the day & it darn well served it's purpose, not to mention we nick named it The Weenie Car. Grandma was delighted as much as our Curious Cruiser to watch him stroll thru her living room like a mini bumper car. My husband never forgets to bring it back home with him when he picks up the baby from grandma's after work. I gave it 5 stars because of quality, endurance (good 4 big boys), reputable maker, and the price was super nice!!! A MUST BUY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 1st birthday toy, June 13, 2005
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This thing is so durable it can take anything your child can give it. This was my son's favorite toy when he was learning to walk, he pushed this around the house and the backyard every day, all day! Now that he's full-on running, he still loves to push it, although faster now, and he's getting the hang of riding on it too. When the neighborhood kids come over to play, they love taking turns pushing him around on it.

Overall, this thing is great! Other reviewers have commented on the plain styling of it, but personally, I think that's one of it's benefits. You can use this toy with both boys and girls and, believe me, it will last thru multiple kids.

Assembly does take a bit of time, but no where near as bad as getting most toys simply out of the box!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best push toy for a 1-year-old, December 8, 2003
By A Customer
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

My 1-year-old inherted this push toy, along with four others, from various relatives. This is the one he uses, for pushing or for riding. The others serve as cars to crash this one in to.

The key features that make him choose this are:
(1) The front wheels don't turn. A car with turning front wheels is a bad idea for pushing since you can't hold onto the steering wheel when pushing.
(2) The back push handle is the right height. Others are too short or don't have one at all.

For me (Dad), I like the durability and lack of sharp edges. This car went through some large number of relatives before getting to us. It still holds up, even after I took a few turns riding it myself.
