To say this toy was a bear to assemble is an understatement. The fact that I should know that there is a video for assembly - are you kidding me? All that the directions had to say for many of the steps was USE A HAMMER! Seriously. You will not dent it, this thing is made of some tough plastic. Not so tough that you can't manually screw in the screws though - which yes you will have to do. No predrilled holes, or even easily identifiable marks of where you should place your screw in some places either. Just vague drawings. I mean it was worse then Ikea, people. IKEA!!!
But the easiest way to get the pieces in that attach the roof to the car is to use a hammer. I repeat, just use a hammer. A mallet would be better but alas I didn't have one handy when I went to town on this thing in a FIT of rage. And not a dent or scratch was left in the wake. But you had better believe that it went in like butter with a few good wacks!
I am reluctantly giving this 4 stars because despite the burning malice I hold for this car because of the pita it was to assemble, my son absolutely loves it. The only other drawbacks I see are that I wish it had a key that clicked, and I wish the door closed a bit easier. But my 18 month old son doesn't seem to mind (although he did take his key set into the car and proceeded to prod and look around disappointedly wondering where the ignition was. It was kind of sad, but he got over it quickly enough). He loves the walkie talkie, the siren noises that come out of it, and the whole car in general. But I still wish I had just waited and let my husband assemble it.
