Little Tikes Shopping Cart - Yellow/Red

Some of you might have read the review that says the cart turns over easily. Well, most of these carts have a plastic plug on them. All you have to do is remove the plug and put some sand in the base of the cart. My child is in physical therapy 4X each week. This is a toy we use in our sessions. Our therapist shared this little hint with me, so I hope someone finds this helpful.

I purchased this grocery cart for my 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter and they both LOVE it. I had searched for quite sometime for a sturdy basket and this is it!! It's tall enough for my 45" tall son to use comfortably and chunky enough for my 2 year old to push it with ease. Assembling takes a little time but once it was all put together it looked great!! Both kids play with it and often times argue over it. It has a seat for "baby" and that has been a lot of fun for my little girl. My son likes the open space beneath the basket because he can put "soda cans" underneath just like we do at a real grocery store. If you are looking for a grocery cart this is a FANTASTIC one.

This is a wonderful toy. My daughter, who is 12 months old, has had this toy for four months and has never tired of it. She loves to push it around and fill it up with her toys. It's also great for when kids are first walking since it has no sharp edges. There is only one safety issue: the toy comes with plastic play money -- dollars and coins. The dollars are fine, but the coins are a chokable hazard. Although they seem too large (which is why I didn't immediately throw them out), my daughter was able to get one lodged sideways in the back of her mouth and choked. If a family friend hadn't noticed, I'm afraid of what would have happened to my daughter. I happened to have the video tape on and was in the other room when it happened. When I play back the video tape, I'm horrified. My daughter clearly picks up the coin, inserts it in her mouth, then begins to choke and gag. Other than that, this is a truly great toy. Three of my friends have it and also love it. However, we have all thrown out the yellow plastic coins.

Update to this review: I received a call from a representative at Little Tikes who was concerned about the possible choking/gagging hazard from the plastic coins that come with this toy. The rep said that they take safety concerns like this very seriously, and she's forwarding notes from our conversation to the design engineers at Little Tikes. I am very impressed with Little Tikes and believe that they're a caring company. The rep did mention one thing: this toy is for kids 24 months and older. I got it when my daughter was first walking (at 9 months), which might explain why the plastic coins posed more of a hazard than they might normally for the appropriate age range. However, since my daughter is tall and has loved the shopping cart from day one, I would still purchase it when I did. I would just throw out the plastic coins. I believe that Little Tikes is a wonderful company with equally great products, which is why so many of the toys I buy are made by them.

My 14 month old loved pushing this around, but the first day we had it, her head and arm got stuck in the open area underneath the basket, completely immovable. It was difficult to assemble and doesnt feel as sturdy as the older model. We returned this toy.

..., I was hesitant to purchase this shopping cart. But, I knew my 20-month-old boy loves pushing carts and strollers (anything with wheels!) and I knew Little Tikes' reputation...and think the really bad review was a bum rap. Like other Little Tikes toys, the shopping cart is very sturdy and as stable as I can imagine it being. It was time-consuming to assemble -- although my son worked alongside me with a screwdriver and his drill, so we turned that into a positive. This shopping cart is NOT a walker -- its recommended for 18 months and above -- but its terrific for more experienced toddlers who are dying to push something. And, I'd imagine it'll be equally fun for Sean as he ages and becomes enmeshed with the world of make-believe.

My 20 month old loves this shopping cart, we bought it a long time ago thinking he would be able to use it (when he was about 12 months) but it wasn't until he was about 14 months that he really started playing with it. Now, he pushes it everywhere, fills it up with everything and anything and he really enjoys it BUT he tried to climb into the part where he normally sits at the grocery store and of course he is way too bit, anyway luckily I never take my eye off of him and caught him before he took a dive - not the shopping carts fault by any means. Though, I will say it tips very easily. Make sure your child is really steady on his or her feet before using this toy - if your anything like me and don't always go by the toy suggested guidelines just wanted to let you all know this before purchasing for a child too young. All in all, it's great and my son enjoys it!

This toy was purchased for dd around 1 year of age. Although she was a late walker, dd took an immediate interest in it. It is a great toy for hauling "food", empty cool whip/ butter containers, empty food boxes, etc; hauling toys and whatever else your child can find around the house. We use it (dd pushes it) daily to do a clean sweep of the house before bed time.

Pros:
- Dependable Little Tikes Quality
- Seat fits even larger dolls
- Deep enough and wide enough to fit a lot of treasures
- Tall enough for taller/ older children
- Easy to assemble
- Doesn't tip over very easily
- Great height for parent to push around the house (dd likes to push her stroller while we push the shopping cart)

Cons:
- Very tall for young children (they can't reach to the bottom)

Great - must have for all children !

I purchased this for my grandson the moment he started walking at 11 months and for the last 8 months it's been one of his very favorite toys. He loves to put his teddy bear in the "child's seat" and go shopping. The shopping cart is sturdy and balanced. This was wonderful when he first started walking because it helped him walk and he felt so competent! At first he would bump into walls because he didn't know how to turn it but as he's gotten older he turns it and pushes it everywhere. I purchased plastic fruit and canned goods for the cart so he could really go shopping! He will say "bye bye" and go to the "store" after I tell him what I want. He'll come back and hand me the cucumber I asked him to get, etc. I can't say enough good things about the shopping cart's educational value as well as the fun he's had with it....and he'll be able to use it well into the future!

We bought this shopping cart for my daughter's birthday to replace the cheapie one she'd had before. Her previous one had cost under $10 (a gift) and there is no comparison between that one and the Little Tikes one. The old one was flimsy from the get go, faded quickly, and when it broke, left sharp edges in the plastic. The Little Tikes cart is much, much sturdier and safer.

I put it together in less than 30 minutes, even with my daughter's 'help'. There's a nice deep basket that holds a good amount of pretend play food or whatever else your child wants to push around. The seat for a doll folds against the cart just like a real shopping cart, and easily holds a good variety of different style dolls. The empty shelf under the basket is a nice touch, perfect for stashing more groceries.

This cart is definitely worth the extra money, and I'd gladly buy it again.

Edit: It's been 3 years since I wrote this review and we still have this cart. The colors are bright and it works great, even after tons of outdoor play. This toy is definitely worth the purchase price!

Let me start by saying my son has had this toy for over three years and it is his absolute favorite. Since he's had it so long I can tell you its very durable. We haven't had any problems. This is the one and only toy he has used every single day since we bought it. He uses it for pretty much everything, but especially for cleaning up. He uses it to gather up all of his toys and take them to his bedroom to put away. He also loves to use it to play store.

The only problem with this toy: when his friends come over they want to play with it too! Maybe I should get a few more of them!

I would highly recommend this toy to anyone!
