Of course, any kid who loves Thomas will be thrilled with this bed. We have had it for almost a year now, and my four-year-old still likes to run trains and cars in the "track" down the sides of the bed. Important note: I did not read carefully, but you MUST buy and cut a piece of plywood or the mattress will fall through the bed to the floor. (It says that in the description, but I missed it.) Thank goodness my husband was home from Iraq at the time to take care of this pretty important detail! A very durable bed. I can get into the bed myself to snuggle my son at night. After a year, it is still holding up very well!

I purchased the Thomas bed when it was time for my son to transition from a crib to a toddler bed. It was easy to put together (if you purchase locally, you will need a big truck or SUV, two HUGE boxes) with just one adult, less than an hour assembly. Just be really careful with putting on those decals! As others mentioned you will need some sort of base for the mattress. We reused the springs from his crib, since it was falling apart and going into the trash. We store excess bedding in the little toybox section. It's plenty big enough for a spare mattress protector, sheets, and blankets. He climbs all over his Thomas bed with no damage. He's going to be pretty sad when he outgrows it!

My little man loves his Thomas bed. He's been sleeping in it everynight. When he arrived home from daycare I had the bed set up and ready for him. When he seen it, he jumped up and down, kissed and hugged the Thomas face. It was a wonderful and happy sight to see. I did my reading on the bed and read alot of reviews for the bed and noticed that the only complaints from customers who brought the bed, was that they wished it had or came with some kind of support for the mattress. A few people suggest buying some type of plywood for support. However, if your baby had a crib already, all you needed to do was to break down the crib and use the spring support that helped hold up the crib mattress, since the bed uses a standard crib mattress. The spring support fits perfect on the Thomas bed and holds the mattress good; no slipping or sliding. No purchasing any plywood.

Just an idea.

I love the bed, my son loves the bed, we're all happy. This was a great buy.

Adult Perspective:

This is a little tikes bed.. therefore, think of all the things little tikes makes out of that semi rigid plastic, sorta flexible, not totally strong in the "wow, this will last 20 years" sorta way -- but then again -- remember... it's only meant for a few years of life for your little kid.

Putting it together was a chore -- the pieces didn't for me line up 100%, the screw caps didn't always stay seated, so they would pop open occasionally -- nothing terrible. The footboard just did not want to connect to the side rails, i had to use a little grease and a heavy hammer to get them to interlock -- thank goodness the little guy wasn't around to see papa swear so much at something that's supposed to bring so much joy! finally went together fine.

I initially bought some 3/4" plywood for the mattress support -- but then in the process of taking his crib apart -- i realized it'd probably be more comfortable to use the crib mattress springs to support his mattress -- indeed it was, and it inserts perfectly into the base of the thomas frame.

I wish there were more stickers/decals to further outline the wheels on the siderails -- i feel like the Thomas face stands out but the sides are just blended into that blue plastic -- oh well.

My son's perspective:

HE LOVES IT. He hugs Thomas before he leaves his room, and when he comes into his room before we put him down for a nap or for the night, he always says "Hi Thomas!" I think the bed comforts him to some degree, and I've never seen him this excited about a toy for a while, he's 2.5 years old.

Final perspective:

Best $279.99 I ever spent, for the reaction my son had to this, I would have spent up to $1000.00.

Enjoy this purchase, and purchase without any hesitation, trust me.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE this bed! If you have a Thomas lover, then you need this bed! it came in Fast in two boxes. It is kinda hard to get together, BUUUUT once it is together it is PERFECT! We used the crib spring bottom for the mattress support! (it fits perfectly) We purchased this for my 12 and 1/2 month old, when he became an escape artist and got out of his crib, and when he saw it HE LOVED IT!!
I did have one small "OOPS" when putting this together, I swear its the hair color, lol , make sure you put it together in whatever room it is going to be in, because it doesn't fit through a doorway. I had to put it together TWICE!! HA!
I would buy this bed over and over again!! and def recommend it to a friend!! Your little one will love it!

Your child will be delighted with this bed. My little guy loved this bed for the few years he has had this. He kissed it good night for months. The construction is sturdy and the shoulder guards will keep a child from falling out. If they do manage to fall, the bed is close to the floor and no real injury seems possible. The downside is that this bed is a pain to put together. The plastic pieces do not fit well unless strength, ingenuity and vulgarities are applied. The bed will need two mattresses to sit up high like in the photo or I screwed in a piece of plywood and used one mattress. The modification allowed my son, wife and me to be in the bed at the same time (I did say it was sturdy). The other negative is what do you do when your child out grows the bed but still loves Thomas? The bed takes a crib size mattress. Also, the toy box at the front of the bed has come in handy. If your child likes Thomas and you are looking to transition the youngster from a crib, this could be the solution.
